He pressed his leg against hers, pinning her down and cutting off any chance of escape. His body hovered over hers, arms braced on either side so he wouldn't crush her.

Realization dawned on Nadine—she had called out Jack's name in her sleep. There was no point in denying it. Brad had heard her. Hence, she openly admitted, "Jack's my ex-boyfriend."

Her words were simple, straightforward—and like a knife to his heart. She had admitted it. She admitted that Jack was her ex. Essentially, she was admitting that she had loved him.

At that moment, Brad felt as if a bucket of cold water had been dumped over him, soaking him from head to toe. His blood went cold.

For a moment, he couldn't bring himself to look into Nadine's eyes. A bitter taste filled his throat, spreading to his stomach, until it seemed like even his core was drenched in bitterness.
