Passionate Devotion: Master Fudd's Beloved Wife novel Chapter 571

It was the end of the working day. The doctors who were not on duty that night started leaving the hospital.

"Serene, I thought you weren’t on duty tonight? Why are you still here? Do you want to work overtime?"

Serene pursed her lips and smiled. "I'm just going for a bit to pack my stuff."

Not wanting to leave, she dilly-dallied, trying to stall for more time. She looked at the pregnancy test report and kept it inside her desk drawer.

...

Wilson was waiting for her downstairs but she had not come out. He looked at the time, seeing that it had already past her working hours. Concerned, he got out of the car and went into the hospital to look for her.

He arrived at the office and realized she was all alone in the huge office. She was resting her head on the table and seemed to be asleep.

Wilson quietly walked up to her.

Serene was not in deep slumber. She woke up when Wilson approached her.

"Wilson, why are you here?"

The girl rubbed her eyes as she asked, confused.

The man answered in his deep voice, "Don't you remember? I texted you about half an hour ago and told you I was waiting for you downstairs. Why didn't you go down? Instead, you fell asleep here."

It was then that Serene remembered. "Oh… I forgot. I’m feeling a bit sleepy today."

Wilson chided her but did not forget to remind her, "Cover yourself with a blanket next time if you want to sleep in the office or you might catch a cold."

Serene nodded and took off her white coat. Before she could turn around, Wilson suddenly lifted her up.

Serene gasped. Her drowsiness vanished right away.

"Put me down… We're in the office..."

Wilson did not seem to care at all. He frowned slightly and said, "Didn't you say that you're sleepy? You can just sleep in my arms now."

Serene was speechless.

She was wide awake now!

"You gave me a shock so all my sleepiness is gone now."

Wilson did not put her down. He carried her and walked out of the office at a steady pace. "You don't look well. Just stay still."

Serene knew that he would not put her down, so she brazenly buried her face into his chest. Anyhow, she thought nobody would recognize her as they could not see her face, so Wilson would be the only one who would feel embarrassed.

Nobody could see her!

“Dr. Ludd?”

Murphy’s Law had struck!

She peeked out from under his arms and saw a male colleague from her department who was on his way back to the office after finishing dinner.

Serene was bewildered as she was still in Wilson’s arms. “Hello, Dr. Jay. How are you doing?”

Dr. Jay nosily looked at Wilson who was carrying her. He laughed and said, “Dr. Ludd, don’t you want to introduce me to your friend here? He’s your…boyfriend, right?”

Serene wussed out immediately.

However, Wilson answered his question. “No.”

Serene and Dr. Jay were stunned for a few moments, the atmosphere turning somewhat awkward.

In the next second, Wilson confessed their relationship proudly. “Hello, I’m Wilson Jarret. I’m Serene’s fiancé. We’re getting married soon.”

Serene was speechless.

Dr Jay’s eyes brightened as he smiled. “I see. Dr. Ludd, your boyfriend is so witty. I’m surprised.”

Serene chortled and said, “Well, if there’s nothing else, we’ll make a move first.”

“Alright, you guys go ahead.”

Serene covered her face with her hands after Wilson carried her into the car. She said, embarrassed, “I’m pretty sure the whole department will know everything by tomorrow morning. Dr. Jay is a tattletale and terrible at keeping secrets.”

A frown crept across Wilson’s face as he looked at her and said in a discontented tone, “Your colleagues in your department don’t know you have a fiancé?”

“Well, I don’t have any reason to specifically talk to them about it. They love gossiping too much and I don’t want to become the talk of the town.”

Serene with her eagle-eyes noticed some cuts on his hand. It seemed as if he had been pricked by some needles.

“It’s fine. I bought the wrong fish earlier and it was filled with bones so I kind of pricked myself while cleaning the fish. Have a bite. If it’s nice, I’ll buy more fish tomorrow to cook for you.”

Serene picked up a piece of fish and ate it. It was boneless. She lowered her head and tears started flowing from her eyes.

Wilson was surprised. "What's wrong? Does it taste bad?"

Did it really taste so bad to the extent that she had to cry?

Serene shook her head. "It tastes good. I'm sorry... I’ve been acting too wayward today. I'm not sure what's going on but I just felt like being mad at you."

Wilson patted her head. "The more unscrupulous you behave in front of me, the more I like it."

"But you'll get sick of me if I keep behaving this way."

"No, I’ll never get sick of you."

Serene lifted her head and stared at Wilson with her beady eyes. "Will you keep loving me even if I did something you don't like or want?"

"As long as it's something you want to do, I’ll accept it unconditionally."

"Really?" Serene's eyes lit up.

He would not be angry even if she was pregnant?

However, he mentioned before that he did not like kids and did not want them for the time being.

"Yes."

Serene felt relieved seeing Wilson being so serious.

She stuffed some pickled vegetables into her mouth and was about to speak again but Wilson was one step ahead of her. "Baby, I have something to tell you."

"What?"

"I received a secret order from the organization and I'll be going back in two days' time."

Serene bit her lips. "So you let me throw a tantrum today because you're leaving soon? Is that why you've been so considerate toward me?"
