Helen left her mobile phone at home. Carter found her phone on the shoe rack while changing into his shoes at the hallway.
Carter searched for her everywhere and finally, he saw her sitting on a bench at the neighbourhood’s recreational park.
Carter heaved a sigh of relief. His frayed nerves immediately calmed down.
He strode over to her and tried to control his anger as he said, “Why didn’t you bring your phone with you?”
Helen looked at the tip of his shoes and answered dully, “I forgot.”
“I thought you went to the market to buy groceries? Where are the groceries?”
“I didn’t feel like buying them.”
“You didn’t feel like buying them and didn’t come home. What are you doing sitting here?”
Carter’s voice sounded somewhat cold. He was always gentle with her, so she felt slightly upset.
She pursed her lips and said, “It’s up for me to decide what I want to do.”
Carter was speechless.
This woman was throwing a tantrum.
Carter took a deep breath and sat down next to her. Helen moved to the other end of the bench as she did not want to sit too close to him. Carter moved closer to her again. This kept repeating until Helen lifted her head to glare at him.
“Carter Gale!”
The man’s mood brightened up. “You’re finally talking to me now?”
Helen answered, “Stop coming closer to me. It’s stuffy.”
Carter pulled her into his embrace, not allowing her to escape. He tried to coax her in his deep voice, “Are you still angry at me? You managed to cut the price down to 2000 bucks, didn’t you?”
“Do you think I’m angry because of the money?”
Carter stared at her dewy eyes and asked patiently, “Well, tell me why you’re angry then.”
“I… I’m angry because you didn’t discuss the matter with me beforehand. Carter, at times, I feel like I don’t know you at all. I’m not sure if you understand what I feel. Although we've been married for three years, have a son, and sleep in the same bed every night, I somehow feel like I can’t see through you.”
Everything about him was so unusually perfect to the extent that Helen felt like they were from different worlds.
Carter’s heart ached as he saw Helen’s eyes turn red. He lifted his hands and caressed her tender cheeks. “I’ll tell you everything you want to know. Don’t cry, alright?”
Tears suddenly flowed from Helen’s eyes like pouring rain. Carter was flustered.
Helen pursed her red lips. “Don’t you ever dare to rent such an expensive car next time. I don't like it.”
“Alright, I won’t rent such expensive cars anymore.”
“And you’re not allowed to spend recklessly in the future,” Helen mumbled softly. Her heart ached at the thought of spending 2000 bucks on that car earlier.
Carter smiled gently as he said dotingly, “Alright, I’ll do whatever Mrs. Gale wants. Mr. Gale will spend wisely in the future, alright?”
“That’s more like it.”
The corner of the woman’s lips curled upward and the glimmer of smile could be seen on her lips.
Carter’s heart stirred upon hearing her gentle voice. He pulled her toward him and fixed his burning gaze on her face and lips. “Mrs. Gale, can I kiss you?”
“Carter, we’re in public.”
“But I want to kiss you.”
Mmm…
The man pressed his lips against hers before she could even agree.
Upon hearing that, Helen's lips curled upward. However...
She frowned and said in a solemn tone, "Carter, has anybody ever told you that you look like a rich guy?"
"Mm?"
"Well, you see, you're a very particular guy. You never wear wrinkled shirts so I have to iron your shirts every single day. Also, you're a neat freak. You don't like eating outside and dislike oily food. You also practice a lot of good habits..."
Carter stared at her. "Having these habits makes me look like a rich guy?"
Helen shook her head. "It's much more than that. You also behave differently from a normal person in lots of ways. I'm not sure how to explain it right now, but I have a feeling that you'll leave me and Tyler behind one day."
The man looked at the woman's disappointed face as darkness flashed across his eyes. He said in a gentle voice, "We've been married for three years; where do you think I can go? Even if I leave, I'll bring you and Tyler with me."
"Carter, don't tell me you're really the son of an affluent family or something?"
Carter said in a joking manner, "The foolish son of an affluent family?"
"Forget it. Stop joking around. Let's go home."
Helen got up and Carter followed behind her. As they were about to reach the corridor, Carter grabbed her to pull her into his embrace. He caressed the back of her head with his huge hands as he hung his head and said, "No matter what happens in the future, you'll always be Mrs. Gale. That won’t change."
With hands clutching at his shirt, the woman leaned against his chest as she sighed and said, "Carter, I really have a feeling that you and I are from two different worlds. You'll leave Tyler and I one day, won't you?"
Helen knew that she was asking him a silly question, yet she still wanted to ask him. Even if Carter was lying to her, it would at least give her a sense of security.
Carter kissed her forehead. "I won't."
Under a tree nearby was a camera. The camera clicked, capturing an image of the couple hugging.
Wearing a black shirt, the person took out his phone and made a phone call. "Hello, Old Master Gale. I've discovered the Young Master’s address with that woman."
