Early the following morning, Serene was forced to attend her matchmaking session.
Initially, she randomly threw on some random clothes. However, she was forced back inside by her mother. Serene’s mother grabbed a more fitting and youthful dress from her closet and forced her to put it on before allowing her to leave.
After Serene got into the car, she was hesitating all this time if she should give Wilson a call. When she finally mustered the courage to give Wilson a call, his phone was still switched off.
How could anyone possibly keep their phones switched off during the day. He would not have… blocked her now, would he?
Serene grew frustrated when she thought about that.
Upon arriving at the matchmaking spot, Serene was completely unfocused during her conversation with the other person.
This time, the person looked a lot more normal compared to her previous ones. There were no problems nor was he in any way weird since he even invited Serene to watch a movie with him.
It was a Sci-Fi film.
Serene was completely bored to death and unfocused throughout the entire movie.
After they got out from the cinema, the man seemed to be holding back a lot. He finally spoke, “Miss Ludd, were you forced by your parents? You seemed very unfocused.”
“Um… No. I was just feeling under the weather recently.” Serene replied while awkwardly scratching her head as she felt slightly sorry for him.
The man laughed before reaching out to push his glasses back onto his nose as he said, “It’s fine. I understand that women your age must’ve felt stressed out during any matchmaking sessions. Besides, you’re young and I can understand that.”
The atmosphere seemed slightly awkward and just when Serene was about to say, ‘Let me treat you to a meal’, the man already said, “Miss Ludd, since you’re uninterested in this whole ordeal, I think we should stop wasting each other’s time. Let’s both head home then.”
Although the entire ordeal was unpleasant, Serene thought that his suggestion was the best choice for the both of them since she was not the person who brought that up anyway. When she arrived home, she could at least answer to her mother.
“Alright then. Let’s do that.”
When Serene turned around and was about to leave, the man suddenly called out from behind, “Miss Ludd.”
Serene turned around and stared at him with a puzzled look as she asked, “What’s the matter, Mr. Lou?”
The man handed her one of the two movie tickets they bought earlier and said, “Since we’re never going to work out, let’s split the bill for the movie tickets then.”
Serene was speechless.
Serene immediately tossed him a hundred bucks, turned around and walked away without even looking back.
Why were all men these days so weird!
How could a man be so stingy when a date could not work out? He was so cheap that he was unwilling to even spend on a single movie ticket! So that was why he could not get a girlfriend!
Serene furiously told Verian about the peculiar ordeal she had just gone through.
Verian replied with a series of, “Hahaha.”
…
Since today happened to be a Saturday in the Fudd family home, Verian was keeping Little Jelly Bean company while she drew. She nearly laughed herself to death when she received Serene’s text.
That was too peculiar now. It seemed a matchmaking date was terrifying.
Little Jelly Bean curiously asked, “Monty, what are you laughing at?”
“I was laughing at a stingy person.”
When Heaton came downstairs from his study, he noticed Verian was laughing hysterically while clutching onto her phone.
Who was this woman talking to? Why was she this happy?
He approached her and sat beside her as he asked, “What are you laughing at?”
Verian immediately handed her phone to him as she said, “Look, Serene’s date for her matchmaking session is a huge weirdo. He even wanted to split the bill for their movie tickets.”
“Why did Serene go to a matchmaking session?”
“We’ll go visit a doctor.”
…
They arrived at the doctor’s office soon after. After the doctor looked at the film, he frowned slightly and said, “There’s a minor problem. The position of the fetus isn’t aligned.”
Verian had never encountered a situation like this before since even when she was pregnant with Little Jelly Bean back then, she never had this situation. Her heart started racing immediately as she could feel it from her throat. She asked, “Then, what should I do, doctor? Will my child be okay?”
The doctor comforted her as he said, “Don’t worry too much. It’s common for plenty of pregnant women to find their fetuses to not be aligned correctly. Based on your ultrasound, your problem isn’t too serious but you should take extra care of yourself. Moreover, you need to jog more and if you have time, I suggest you take part in pregnant yoga. It’ll greatly help in realigning your fetus.”
…
After getting out of the hospital and just as Heaton was about to start the car, he noticed Verian was tearing up beside him.
Heaton was stunned as he asked, “What’s the matter?”
“Heaton, I’m scared.”
Pregnant women were all pretty sensitive and would be prone to worry too much. Heaton then pulled her into his arms and gently caressed her huge belly with his huge hand while saying, “I will make sure you’re alright. Don’t you worry and didn’t the doctor say that your problem isn’t serious? We’ll jog more when we get back home.”
“The doctor even said I should take part in pregnant yoga.” Verian wiped her tears with the back of her hands while she mumbled.
“Oh, pregnant yoga too. I’ll have Kush get you registered to a class immediately. As long as we take extra care, all will be fine.”
Heaton comforted her patiently as he lowered his head to kiss her forehead. He then said with a sigh, “Stop crying, okay. It’s my fault for not jogging with you. I actually thought all a pregnant woman needs is to lie down and rest. Who knew a pregnant woman needed to exercise too. Let’s pick up some pregnancy-related books from the bookstore and learn about everything a pregnant woman needs to look out for. It’s my fault for not taking good care of you and our child.”
“Heaton, I realized I’m getting increasingly dependent on you.”
“So what if you are? It’s perfectly reasonable for a wife to depend on her husband.”
Verian’s initial depressed mood improved significantly. She smiled at him.
