After Heaton and Verian arrived at Wilson's room, Verian handed him the pink thermal flask.
"Dr. Jarret, would you like some plain porridge?"
Wilson remained silent. He did not seem like he wanted to eat anything, so Heaton calmly said, "A certain someone told us to bring this to you. Are you really not going to eat it?"
Verian was stunned when Heaton said that.
Wilson's dark eyes glimmered for a brief moment.
Verian poured the porridge into a bowl and handed it to Wilson.
The patient was curious about it, so he accepted the offering. He managed to finish almost half of the porridge.
…
When Serene was done with her rounds, she had some free time, so she unknowingly wandered to the admissions department.
It was only when she arrived outside of room 63 that she realized that she wanted to visit Wilson.
Heaton and Verian had already left. Wilson was in bed, and he had the pink thermal flask in his long slender hands. It looked like he had been staring at it for quite some time.
Serene had stared at him too, but she did it at the door.
She wondered if he knew who was the owner of that pink thermal flask.
However, she knew that Verian would never betray her.
It would be better for her to stand and watch him from a distance. She had missed him, so she could visit him discreetly while he was there.
Serene was lost in her thoughts until someone spoke to her.
"Dr. Ludd? What are you doing here?"
The voice startled her out of her reverie, and she was worried that Wilson might have heard that. She frantically said, "I'm not doing anything. I'm just passing through. I should head back now!"
Her colleague glanced at the handsome man in the room, and then she looked at Serene with a teasing smile. "News about the patient in room 63 must have floated to your department. Here to take a look?"
"What? Of course not."
Serene immediately turned around and left.
Wilson heard the commotion outside his room, but he could not see anyone when he turned his attention to it.
He ripped the IV line from his hand and got out of bed. However, a doctor stopped him just as he opened the door.
"Mr. Jarret, what are you doing out of bed?"
"I need to take care of something."
Wilson immediately pushed the doctor away and strode outside in his patient's gown.
…
When Serene arrived at the elevator, she placed both her hands in her white lab coat's pocket. However, when she glanced at the elevator doors' reflection, she was stunned by what she saw.
It was the reflection of a handsome man who stood behind her.
She clenched her fists…
She dared not look back as she waited for the elevator. However, the elevator took a long time to arrive. When she saw the man inched his way toward her, she bolted toward the stairs.
Wilson chased after her, but he could not see her anywhere when he got to the fire escape.
Serene was hiding in a tiny tight space. She could see the silhouette of that man through an opening.
Wilson knew that she was hiding nearby, so he softly said, "Serene, I know that you don't want to have anything to do with me, but I really want to see you. Come out, please?"
Serene bit her lips as she kept her gaze downward. Wilson could not see the emotions in her eyes, but he could hear her whispers. "I promised my mom that I would never see you again."
"What if I get a divorce? Will you give me another chance?"
Serene shook her head in defeat and said, "I don't know... Please stop asking these questions. I truly don't know."
"Little brat, stay with me, and I'll take care of everything else."
All she had to do was to stay by his side dutifully.
…
After Serene was done with her work, her head felt heavy; she did not know what she should do.
On the one hand, she missed Wilson, and on the other, she wanted to push him away.
However, she could not lie about how she truly felt.
Just as she was lost in her thoughts, someone knocked on the door.
She was dumbfounded. She had just moved, and Verian was the only person who knew about her new place. She thought it was Verian, so she opened the door without any hesitation. However, it was Chainer.
"Chainer… What are you doing here?"
Chainer stared at her and said, "I heard that you found a new job at the Second Hospital. I went there to look for you, but I saw you got into a cab, so I followed you here."
Serene frowned. "What did you follow me?"
"Serene, your mom called me in the middle of the night the other day. I know that you've been sad after our break up. I've reflected on it, and I'm very sorry for what I've done. You're better than Gwen, and I know that now. She has an insane temper while you're gentle and obedient. I'm so sorry I didn't appreciate you back then."
"You followed me just to tell me that?"
Serene did not know what to say; what a strange man!
