The next morning, Heaton finally gave in to Verian’s request and allowed her to go to South City to visit Madam Gaunt.
However, Heaton personally escorted her all the way to South City and after staying a night there, he took a flight back to North City the next day for work.
It was around six in the evening when Verian arrived at the Gaunt family mansion.
Both Yandel and Madam Gaunt were in the house. The moment Heaton and Verian stepped into the house, Madam Gaunt hugged Verian in excitement.
“Riana, why didn’t you tell me that you’re coming to South City? You should have notified me and I would have asked your brother to pick you up.”
Verian glanced at Heaton and her lips curled up into a light smile. “I wanted to give you a surprise. Besides, Heaton was busy with work, so he escorted me here today and will return to North City tomorrow morning.”
Madam Gaunt was stunned upon hearing that and gently patted Heaton’s arms, feeling sorry for him. “You must be exhausted, Little Fudd. Quick, put down your luggage, wash your hands, and get ready for dinner.”
When everyone was seated at the dining table, there was no sight of Xylean. Because of this, Verian asked out of curiosity. “Brother, where’s Leannie?”
Yandel’s face darkened for a second. “She’s staying in school now.”
“School? Leannie went back to school again?”
“Yes,” Yandel muttered impassively. He then continued, “She wanted to finish the remaining classes that she missed previously.”
As Yandel mentioned Xylean, Madam Gaunt did not feel good and quickly diverted the topic. With a smile on her face, she looked at Heaton. “Little Fudd, since you’re busy with your work and can’t take leave, why don’t you ask Yandel to send someone over to pick Riana from the airport? You have to go back to work tomorrow morning and your schedule is too tight and rushed. I’m worried that your body won’t be able to handle it.”
“It’s all right. I don’t feel comfortable letting Riana come here alone.”
Verian glanced at him affectionately. “Mom, he’ll be alright.”
…
At night, Heaton and Verian shared the same room, specially arranged by Madam Gaunt.
After taking a shower, Verian donned her sleepwear and walked to Heaton.
“Heaton, what time are you leaving tomorrow?”
Heaton gently pulled her onto his lap. “You want to chase me away, huh?”
Verian wrapped her arms around his neck and waggled her legs in the air. She beamed a warm smile at him. “I’m gonna stay for a few more days in South City. Madam Gaunt just had her surgery and wish to accompany her more. You shall go home and get your work done. Take good care of Little Jelly Bean too, alright?”
‘She seldom acts coquettishly and only does it when she has a request, huh?’
Heaton huffed lightly, feeling unhappy about her decision. As he glanced at the huge suitcase Verian had brought over, he raised his brows. “Since you packed so many things in your luggage, I suppose you want to stay in South City for quite some time.”
Verian burst into laughter. She then gazed at him with her watery eyes. “Are you angry?”
Heaton took a deep breath and leaned his forehead against hers. He then nuzzled her petite nose and sighed. “How long do you want to stay here?”
“Half a month?”
“A week.”
“... Ten days?”
“Three days.”
Verian grumbled. “Why are the days become less as we talk about this!”
Heaton huffed coldly. He then carried her and put her on the bed. While taking off his necktie, he said, “One week and that’s it. If you continue bargaining with me, I’ll kidnap you back to North City.”
“... Bandit!”
Verian grabbed the necktie he removed and threw it at him. However, the man had turned around and went to the bathroom to shower.
…
At midnight while Verian was sleeping, she vaguely felt someone taking off her clothes.
She huffed indistinctly and pushed the man away weakly.
“I’m sleepy… I don’t want…”
What’s more, she was pregnant and could not have sex.
The man lowered his head and planted a kiss on her lips. He then whispered in a husky voice, “Just sleep, I won’t touch you.”
Verian muttered an “okay” and continued sleeping. She had no idea what he was doing.
The driver smiled. “I do. Previously, I was the one who sent Ms. Xylean to school. I know which hostel building she’s staying at too.”
“That’s great then.”
…
At People’s General Hospital in North City.
Serene contemplated for a while before deciding to let her leader know that she wished to resign.
Many things had happened between her and Wilson. It was impossible for her to pretend as if nothing had happened and work together with him like before.
Although Wilson was away to deal with some matters in Italy, he would still be coming back to the hospital. Rather than waiting for him to be back… She might as well have resigned quickly and leave as soon as possible.
She had been deliberating this matter for the past two days. For the next few days, she needed to go back to Clear River Town to clear her mind.
The moment Serene knew Wilson was married, he had dealt a severe blow to her.
Her leader was shocked and in disbelief when she passed him the resignation letter.
“Little Ludd, you just came to our hospital for an internship. Out of so many students, your university only recommended you to us and furthermore, you’re working under Director Jarret, our hospital’s most remarkable doctor. You’re his one and only disciple and just to let you know, he never allows students to tag along while he’s working. Why do you suddenly…want to resign?”
“Leader, I’ve thought carefully about it. I’m not from this city. The cost of living is high and my salary is not enough to support my expenses. Hence, I plan to move back to my hometown and work at Resident Medical Center.”
Serene simply made up an excuse and it sounded quite reasonable. Her leader did not think about it further and expressed his heartfelt words, “You must consider carefully about this. You have a good opportunity here. As long as you work hard and carry out your tasks well, there won’t be any problem for you to become a permanent doctor here.”
“Leader, I’ve decided on this.”
“Alright then. I’ll accept this letter and approve it then.”
Serene walked out of her leader’s office and heaved a big sigh of relief. She did not have to see Wilson Jarret anymore in the future. However, why did she feel a stabbing pain in her heart at the same time?
She took her phone out from the pocket of her white coat, tapped on Wilson’s WeChat profile, and subsequently deleted his contact from WeChat. As she had decided not to contact him anymore, she blocked his phone number as well.
With all this… She probably would not have any more contact with a married man, right?
If her parents knew she had gotten entangled with a married man for such a long time, they would have beaten her to death.
