Verian booked another room because Wilson was injured, and Serene had to take care of him. They were also a couple, so it would be very inconvenient for everyone if Verian were to stay with them.
Even though Wilson's injuries were not fatal, it was not light either.
Serene spent the entire night taking care of him. She did not dare to close her eyes.
Wilson patted the bed and said, "Little brat, come here and sleep with me for a bit."
Her legs would be numb if she continued to kneel by the side of the bed.
"I need to monitor your condition, so I can't fall asleep. Your injuries are severe. I don't think I'll sleep. If I climb into bed, I will fall asleep for sure.
It was uncomfortable, but kneeling would keep her awake.
Serene noticed Wilson was wide awake, but he looked incredibly pale. She placed her hand on his eyes and said, "Rest."
Wilson pulled her hand away before he grasped it in his palms. He stared at her and asked, "Are you not curious about how I got hurt?"
Serene bit her lips and shook her head. She said, "I know that you're a good person."
Wilson smiled as he stared at her adorable face. He beamed when he asked, "Do you think that I'm the vilest person in anyone else's hearts?"
Serene's expressions grew somber when she said, "Perhaps you've done unspeakable things, but at least I know that you won't hurt me."
As the woman spoke, she lowered her gaze. She was delightfully naive.
Wilson hugged her with his long arms. He lowered her head and immediately pushed her down in front of him as Serene stared at him with a puzzled look.
"Is somewhere else hurting you?"
"No."
"Then…"
The slightly cold and dried lips were pressed against her forehead. That single gentle kiss felt very passionate.
Serene blushed as he moved his lips.
His thin lips were already on the tips of her nose. It felt itchy. So much that Serene wanted to push him away.
However, when she reached out to do that, Wilson coughed violently, which prompted Serene to lunge at him. "Are you okay?"
Wilson immediately pulled her onto the bed.
He hugged her tightly in his embrace.
"Wilson, let me go. I might accidentally rip your wound!"
The man nuzzled her scalp with his chin and sighed. "Oh babe, stop moving around. Let me take a short nap while I hug you. I'm exhausted."
Serene was speechless.
Serene's name had the word 'babe' in it. She had no idea if he was calling her babe or her name.
However, that one word sounded so sweet when he used it on her…
Serene looked at Wilson's bruised face. She reached out to hug his neck gently and mumbled in a soft tone, "I'll take a nap as well then."
"Okay, sure."
Serene had no reply for him.
…
The Fudd family home back in North City.
The phone rang constantly.
"Hello?"
Old Master Fudd was the one who picked up the call.
"Dad, where's Riana? Why can't I reach her?"
The moment Old Master Fudd heard Heaton's voice, he was worried and extremely emotional. "Heaton, where are you? Are you safe?"
"Dad, I'm safe. What's the matter?"
Old Master Fudd slapped his head and exclaimed, "Not good. We saw the reports on the terrorist attacks in Italy. Verian got worried, so she went to Rome to look for you. Where are you? Aren't you in Rome?"
…
After Heaton hung up the call, he immediately told Kush, "Book me a flight to Rome, right now."
Kush was stunned when he heard that. "But boss, we have an appointment tomorrow."
"Wilson, does your family know about your injury?"
Had he broken the law and could not tell his family about it?
"I don't have a family."
Serene was stunned. He sounded way too calm and did not seem like he was joking. She looked up and met his darkened gaze.
Did he not have any family? What about his parents?
"My parents died while they were on a mission."
"A mission?"
"Yeah, it was something work-related."
Wilson had not intended to tell her his family's complicated past because he was unsure if that would terrify her.
Serene sighed. "That is really sad."
Sad?
Wilson felt helpless. No one had ever called him sad since he was a child.
After a brief moment, Serene looked up and stared at him with a sincere look. "Your parents died while they were at work. They were heroes. That means you can't do anything that breaks the law, or their spirits would be very sad."
Wilson raised his brows. Did he look like someone who would break the law?
When she noticed his silence, Serene persisted, "Wilson Jarret, if you don't promise me that, then I… I won't be your girlfriend!"
Wilson chuckled.
"What are you laughing at?"
"Such a heavy threat." The man laughed harder.
"Can you promise me that?"
"How could I not? My girlfriend is more important than anything else."
Serene blushed as he stared at her. Then she quickly looked away.
