Verian was devastated.
Yandel patted her shoulder and said in a soft voice, “Rest well. I’ll find another suitable donor for the hematopoietic stem cells.”
Verian covered her face with her hands after Yandel and Yale exited the ward. She took a deep breath and tried hard to recall when she got pregnant.
Verian reached out her hand, slowly touching her flat stomach. Her fingers trembled slightly.
Out of all the times, why did the baby come now?
She and Heaton…were divorced…
Her eyes slowly began to turn red.
Aggrieved, sadness, and panic…Verian was at a loss.
Yandel was looking at Verian through the window outside the ward. He ordered Yale, “Is there any news regarding the person I’ve asked you to investigate?”
“Heaton Fudd. He’s a very famous figure in North City. All information regarding him shows that he’s perfect in every way. However, that might all be fake. Otherwise, how could he abandon his wife?”
“Did you find out the reason why they divorced?” Yandel lowered his head and adjusted his cufflinks.
Yale said, “The reason why Heaton got a divorce from Ms. Verian was even more absurd. Heaton’s uncle thought that Ms. Verian was his biological daughter. As such, it meant that Heaton and Ms. Verian are cousins. Because of this rumors spread that…Heaton filed for a divorce with Ms. Verian because he was afraid of being attacked by public criticism.”
Yandel frowned.
“He gave up his own marriage because he was afraid of something that has yet to happen?”
Yandel thought it was ridiculous as well. Judging by Heaton’s status in North City, he must be very weak in handling crisis if he was threatened by such trifling matters.
Yale’s cellphone rang.
After he hung up, he reported to Yandel in a low voice, “Second young master, Heaton is here in North City. He’s most likely here to look for Ms. Verian.”
“Stop him. Riana is emotionally unstable right now. I’m afraid things will go wrong if she sees him now.”
“Yes, second young master.”
…
As soon as they got off the plane, Heaton and Kush were surrounded by a bunch of men dressed in black suits.
Heaton kept his composure and said in a cold tone, “Kush, it seems like they’re going to come at us now. Think you can handle this?”
“I’ve been working under you for so many years but have never had to physically step up myself. However, looking at the way they’re standing, I’d feel sorry for them if I didn’t show my own abilities today.”
One of the leaders amongst the men in black said, “President Fudd, please don’t take this the wrong way. Our second young master wanted us to invite you over to have a talk. We have no bad intentions.”
Heaton frowned and his eyes darkened. Kush whispered in his ear, “Boss, do you think something fishy is going on here?”
“Yandel is an important figure in South City. He’s devaluing himself if he’s such a good-for-nothing.”
The group’s leader laughed and nodded his head politely at Heaton. “It seems like President Fudd knows something about our second young master. Please follow us this way, gentlemen.”
Heaton and Kush entered the black Bentley.
…
The black Bentley drove into the Gaunt’s yard.
The head bodyguard led Heaton and Kush into Gaunt’s mansion.
Heaton’s face darkened further. He looked terrifying. “I never imagined President Soan to be someone who likes to drive a wedge between two people.”
Yandel did not bother explaining himself. He turned on his phone and played a recording.
”Are you sure you don't want to see Heaton anymore?”
“I never want to see him again. Even if he kneels down in front of me and begs me to go home with him, I will never follow him back!”
Amused, Yandel laughed as he looked at the man’s face. “President, it’s not that I don’t want to let you see Riana. It is your Riana who doesn’t want to see you. Riana and I are very good friends. I treat her like my family, so I’ll support whatever decision she makes.”
Heaton thought that was funny. “You sent your men to bring me here as soon as I got off the plane. You did a background check on me and tracked my location. You knew that I was coming for Riana so you did this to trigger me. Yandel Soan, I’m warning you. Her life and soul belongs to me. Don’t you dare think of keeping her away from me.”
“But it seems like she trusts and relies on me more now. Aren’t both of you cousins? Why not you just leave her alone? Aren’t you afraid that the media will reveal the truth if they find out you’re here at South City to look for her?”
Heaton felt uncomfortable being investigated by Yandel.
Heaton had always been the ruler, but the man in front of him was firmly grasping onto his weak points. That feeling infuriated Heaton.
However, Heaton was still Heaton. He lifted his head and stared straight at Yandel again. His eyes showed no trace of emotions. Then, word by word, he said, “President Soan, my family affairs are none of your business.”
Yandel pushed a velvet box toward him, “Riana wanted me to return this to you.”
He opened the box and resting inside was the wedding ring that Heaton had given Verian.
Damn it, this woman even passed such an important thing to Yandel!
He would skin her alive when he found her!
He spoiled and pampered her too much in the past! She needed to be punished!
