The streets were decorated with colorful street lights and the entire atmosphere was pretty festive and lively on new year’s eve.
Kush glanced at Heaton who was in the backseat from the rear view mirror. The man’s gaze was intensely focused on the window.
Kush could not help but ask, “Boss, will we be heading back to the Fudd family home now?”
Heaton scoffed coldly and said, “Have I not made it clear enough yesterday?”
That was right, boss mentioned yesterday that if he did not meet madam, the old master would not be seeing him for the rest of his lifetime.
However… today happened to be new year’s eve. How could he not attend the reunion dinner?
Heaton’s phone started to ring.
It was Little Jelly Bean that was calling him.
“Hello, daddy?”
Little Jelly Bean was talking to Heaton with her tiny legs raised while lying on the couch. Her huge doe-like eyes were darting around.
The little rascal asked childishly, “Daddy, when are you and Monty coming home? Grandpa is having someone put up the banners now. Can you come home tonight to light fireworks with me, daddy?”
Heaton remained silent for a few seconds before replying in a gentle tone, “Daddy won’t have the reunion dinner with you tonight but after you’re done with the dinner at grandpa’s place, I’ll have Uncle Kush drive you back to the Shallow Bay Mansion.”
Little Jelly Bean was puzzled. She asked with a frown, “Why? Why don’t you bring Monty home to have the reunion dinner with me and grandpa, daddy? Grandpa said, the most important thing about the new year is the reunion. Why don’t you come back with Monty?”
“Jelly Bean, daddy still has some really important work to attend to. However, daddy promise you that we’ll play with some fireworks tonight, okay?”
After a good long thought, Little Jelly Bean finally reluctantly said, “Alright then. I’ll call you after I’m done with dinner. Have Uncle Kush pick me up, okay!”
“Alright.”
After Little Jelly Bean hung up, the old man who was sitting next to her excitedly asked, “What did your dad say? Is he coming home tonight?”
Little Jelly Bean shook her head and said, “Daddy said he will have Uncle Kush pick me up after dinner. Grandpa, why didn’t daddy bring Monty back to celebrate the new year? Did you fight with daddy?”
That b*stard child had a pretty explosive argument with him last night. However, it was quite depressing to spend the new year's eve alone.
Little Jelly Bean squeezed her milky white brows as she spoke in a coquettish tone, “Then, does that mean I have to eat two dinners today?”
The old man laughed as he patted his granddaughter’s little belly. He said, “So, our Little Jelly Bean can’t stomach two dinners?”
Little Jelly Bean giggled as she said in a cheerful tone, “I treat daddy’s dinner as supper then! Grandpa, later when it’s dark outside, we’ll light the largest fireworks in the courtyard with big brother, okay! I want to watch the fireworks!”
“Alright, we’ll play with any fireworks you want, Jelly Bean!”
…
It did not take long for the sky to turn dark.
After Little Jelly Bean finished dinner in the Fudd family home, she was picked up by Kush.
Old Master Fudd stared at the black Maybach that was parked outside the mansion. Although the windows were tinted and he could see the inside clearly, he was certain that the b*stard child Heaton must be inside.
“I’ll make them myself for Little Jelly Bean when we get back.”
Little Jelly Bean was ecstatic. She was beaming as both her eyes curved like a crescent moon. She said, “Yay! The Tang Yuans daddy makes must taste amazing!”
Heaton told Kush that he could leave early to celebrate the new year when they arrive at the Shallow Bay Mansion. However, Kush laughed as he explained that he was a single man so he had nowhere and no one to celebrate the new year with. He would most likely spend the new year with some simple take outs at home.
Hence, Heaton made him stay and eat a bowl of Tang Yuan before leaving.
Kush was startled. This was his first time eating Tang Yuans personally made by his boss. He even finished the soup with the Tang Yuans.
Little Jelly Bean was holding onto a child’s spoon while eating her bowl of Tang Yuans. She said, “Daddy, Uncle Kush, we sure are depressing. We have to spend the new year’s eve alone with a bowl of Tang Yuans each. If only Monty is here, Monty will cook us a meal. Daddy, what do you think Monty is eating for dinner now?”
Heaton had some alcohol with Kush. However, it was not enough to make him drunk but he felt slightly tipsy. He placed his long arms on Little Jelly Bean’s children’s seat. He spoke in a bitter tone while staring at the little rascal, “Daddy wants to know too.”
“Daddy, why don’t we call Monty to ask what she’s eating for dinner?!”
Kush noticed Little Jelly Bean actually went to grab the phone. He knew the call would not go through so he frantically stopped her by saying, “Oh, Jelly Bean, Monty has to be asleep now. Besides, it’s already late. You shouldn’t call her.”
Little Jelly Bean placed her hands down, slumped over on the table and said, “Alright then, daddy, let’s go play with some fireworks.”
Heaton lit a lot of fireworks for Little Jelly Bean in the courtyard. The fireworks spiralled up into the sky like a slithering snake. Both Heaton and Kush then went to smoke nearby.
Kush asked, “Boss, what are you going to do after this? We’ve investigated for a few days now but we didn’t manage to find any flight records for madam. It seems only the chairman knows about the actual whereabouts of madam. Why don’t you… try talking to the chairman again nicely?”
Heaton held the cigarette between his long slender fingers as he took a deep puff before exhaling a few clouds of white smoke. He spoke in a slightly hoarse tone, “The old man wouldn’t risk the entire reputation of our Fudd family and my future to tell me where exactly Riana is. Perhaps, he could not bear to watch me divorce Riana. However, if I was to divorce Riana, perhaps he might feel he would be in a much better position.”
