[Short Flashback]
Finn was seated in the backseat, heading to one of his meetings. He sat in silence, rubbing a ring with his thumb while staring at it for quite some time. Not long ago, he had visited Nina, and he was right — Jonathan was slithering his way into her life.
He should’ve warned her about him. However, considering their recent breakup and his complicated relationship with Nina, he didn’t want to come across the wrong way.
"I hate her," he whispered, his eyelids drooping as his gaze remained fixed on the ring in his fingers. "I hate her."
Like a mantra, he had told himself those words countless times today. He had to remind himself. It was the only way to make himself miss her less or perhaps, make him feel less lonely. In his mind, if he could convince himself and eventually believe it, he wouldn’t long for her or worry about her anymore.
It was easier that way... for him and for Nina.
"Penelope Bennet will surely not let harm come her way," he whispered as he felt his heart start to wane. "And Zoren Pierson won’t let anything happen to his wife."
Finn rocked his head, thinking that should do it. Still, he had to repeat that in his mind as many times as he could remember, only to fall into complete silence. His eyes remained fixated on the ring in his hand, reminded of the smile Nina wore as she sat across from Jonathan.
"I..." he trailed off, hearing a loud honk from the side.
When he turned, all he saw was a truck driving toward their side. His breathing slowed, and his pupils began to dilate. For some reason, the world felt like it was revolving slower than normal.
As the honk grew more ironically distant, there was only one voice Finn heard, so clear it felt like the person was right beside him.
"Let’s break up," was what she said back then.
"Is that what you want?" His voice also resonated in his mind. "If that’s what you want, then let’s do it."
A bitter smile formed on his face, reminding him of how Nina ended their relationship and his response to it.
"I should have told her... I don’t want to."
HONK!
CRASH!

"You’re not dead," she reassured him, brushing his cheek with her thumb. "I know it was scary, but... you’re fine now. Don’t let this incident cloud your judgment, Finn. Let’s not make a mistake just because we’ve been through a lot, okay?"
A short smile appeared on her face as she nodded at him. "Let’s go back to the hospital and talk about it once you’ve completely recovered. Come on."
Nina reached out for his hand to lead him back to the hospital, but as she reached for it, he held her hand tightly and didn’t budge. She looked up at him, a little confused, only to choke on her breath.
There, trickling down his cheek, were tears. freewёbn૦νeɭ.com
"Finn—" she panicked, cupping his face as she wiped the tears from his cheek. "Why are you crying? Don’t cry. It’s okay. You’re fine. Everything’s going to be fine."
"Are we?"
She paused, her brows rising. "Huh?"
"Are we... fine?" he asked under his breath, reaching for her hand as he tried his best to maintain a strong front. But no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t stop his tears. They just kept falling, but they were the least of his priorities right now. "Nina, do I still have a chance to fix us?"
Finn swallowed the tension in his throat and exhaled. "If I can’t fix it now, is there a chance I can in the future? Or have the chances run out? Or am I just too late to take back what I said back then and correct myself? Instead of saying ’Is that what you want?’ can I say, ’Is there anything I can do to change your mind?’"
"Please don’t leave me. Please don’t go. I’m sorry for not being honest," he added, voicing the regret he had felt when she ended their engagement. "What do you want me to do with this regret?"
