Penny, Mint, and Lily’s eyes twinkled brighter than ever each time Nina came out wearing a new wedding dress. Initially, Nina had been a little reluctant to try them on. However, their reactions made her shy, yet at the same time, encouraged her.
While the assistants helped her with the last dress, Nina stared at her reflection in the full-body mirror. She pursed her lips, her eyes scanning the dress she was wearing.
There hadn’t been a set date for the wedding because Nina wanted to have the family meeting first. She wanted the full approval of the elders before moving on to the next step. Even so, seeing herself in a wedding dress filled her with all sorts of emotions.
"I’m getting married," she whispered, making the assistants glance at her and smile.
"You’re a beautiful bride, Miss Reed," one of them said.
Nina lowered her head slightly, offering a smile before setting her eyes back on the mirror. She pressed her lips into a thin line and nodded, agreeing with the compliment for once.
"This dress really makes someone look even more beautiful," she commented. "I think this dress is very pretty."
"And so are you," said the other assistants as they moved to the side, finishing the last touches. The three of them smiled at her approvingly, nodding. "They’ll definitely squeal again when they see you in this."
"Haha," Nina chuckled and nodded at them. "Please give me a minute before opening the door."
"As long as you need, Miss Reed. Just let us know when to reveal the dress."
With that, the assistants left her alone for a bit of privacy. As they left, Nina faced the mirror again. Touching her cheek, she couldn’t help but smile even more. Since she was trying on the dress, the assistants had offered to do some light makeup.
"Goodness," she let out a shallow breath, her eyes twinkling with a bit of tears. "Seeing myself in a wedding dress... and yet, I’m not sure what to feel."
A part of her felt like crying because she would soon walk down the aisle with the love of her life. But another part of her felt anxious, bordering on fear. She didn’t understand this combination of emotions, but she was certain of them.
Another shallow breath escaped her as she forced a smile. "Don’t let them know," she whispered to herself. "Otherwise, they’ll be really worried."
Nina looked at herself and nodded. After taking a deep breath and exhaling, she raised her chin. Turning to her side, she caught one of the assistants through the small gap in the door and nodded at them.
With that, Nina faced forward and watched as the door slid open slowly.
As soon as it did, her lips curled into a smile as she looked at Penny, Mint, and Lily. The three stopped talking and turned their heads in her direction.
"Holy..." Mint breathed out, trailing off as she was too stunned to continue.
Even Penny and Lily felt like their minds went blank for a moment. Seeing this, Nina pushed whatever was bothering her to the back of her mind.
"This is it," Lily breathed out as she recovered, standing up from her seat and reaching for the bouquet on the table. She hurriedly handed it to Nina, never taking her eyes off her as she took a few steps back. "Wow."
Meanwhile...
"Are they going to be okay?" asked Hugo as they sat on the bench.
"Of course they will be. That’s why I’m here," she grinned widely. "Also, since you’re here, can you do me a favor?"
Deep lines appeared between Hugo’s brows as he leaned in to listen to Ginnie, who had leaned closer to him. When she stopped whispering, he pulled his head back and looked at her in surprise.
"Are you sure?" he asked, and she nodded.
"Just try it."
"Well." Hugo shrugged before he laughed. "Sure! That sounds fun."
The two of them laughed mischievously, catching the attention of the players on the court. Some of them stopped for a moment, narrowing their eyes suspiciously. Whatever Ginnie and Hugo were talking about, it felt very suspicious.
As the team looked in their direction, they noticed someone standing at the entrance. Shifting their eyes, their brows furrowed as they saw Max standing still, staring at Hugo and Ginnie.
"What is that guy doing here?" one of the players wondered. "This is a practice game and he shouldn’t be here."
"Did Ginnie ask him to come..." the other player trailed off when they saw Max marching toward the bench. The rest of their comments rolled back in their throat when they saw Max squeeze into the small spot between Hugo and Ginnie.
