Meanwhile...
The sound of glass shattering echoed in the room, liquid trickling down the wall, and then shards scattered on the floor. The strong scent of wine mixed in the still air, blending with the sounds of the television playing.
Jonathan paced back and forth in distress, running his hand through his hair.
"Goddamn it," he muttered, taking another look at the television. They were now showing a graph to explain how the stock market works. There wasn’t even a single news about him and even if there were articles, they were just buried.
Jonathan stretched his neck from side to side, his face twisting. During the Pierson Corporation meeting earlier today, he didn’t mind Atlas winning. After all, he was pleased with the thrill and was looking forward to seeing what Atlas could do to change the tragic fate of the family.
Besides, he still had a lot of tricks up his sleeve.
Who would have thought that after a long day of putting up with everyone in the Pierson Family—especially William and Dean, who wouldn’t stop bothering him—he would come home to this kind of news?
"Charles Bennet and the Miller Company?" he scoffed to himself, his eyes glinting. "And the Bennet Family?"
In summary, many clients and investors of Global Prime Logistics pulled out minutes after the Miller Company’s live broadcast. This was around the time everyone was still busy at the Pierson Corporation. By the time the news reached Jonathan’s ears, the stock prices were already going crazy, and everyone was talking about it.
"Hah!" he laughed, running his tongue across his inner cheek. "Hahaha!"
Was this the reason Zoren insisted he stay during the voting?
Jonathan couldn’t help but laugh the more he thought about it. It still irritated him, but equally amused him.
"Oh..." Straightening up, he shook his head while keeping his eyes on the television.
[Yes. This happens, and it’s possible if more and more people put their money into a certain company. As for market manipulation, it’s highly unlikely that it was one of them. As someone who has been analyzing market prices, I can say with full confidence that this phenomenon is solely due to the new chairman of Miller’s Company, Mr. Charles Bennet.]
[For public knowledge, it is Mr. Charles Bennet who first applied and expanded the logistics industry with not just... which many other logistics companies use nowadays...]
A twisted smirk dominated Jonathan’s face as he briefly listened to the analyst speak to the news anchor. "Penelope Bennet... that was you. I was wrong to underestimate you."
Initially, Penelope wasn’t even on Jonathan’s radar. He didn’t care about her. Why? Because for him, Penelope Bennet was just one of the pawns that one would discard once they’d served their purpose. Moreover, Penny hadn’t been doing much, even when everything was already spiraling around her.
She had been oblivious... or so he thought.
"I thought she was quiet because she thought her little Prime Group was enough to protect her," he whispered, his eyes glinting malevolently. "But it seems she’s been quiet so she could do all of this."
At this point, it was not Zoren, Atlas, Dean, or even Finn at the top of Jonathan’s list. All those names had taken a step down because Penelope Bennet had just made it to the top of his list.
"I said this before, but she really is... annoying, even in death, especially now that she’s alive," he hissed. "She’s going to regret even putting up a fight."
Jonathan calmed himself down, admitting that it was his own fault. How they all got to him wasn’t because they were better than him; they succeeded because he had become too complacent.
Never again.
"You being there to support him is enough. Besides, if not for you, the raid wouldn’t have happened," she remarked approvingly. "Anyway, you should take a day off tomorrow. I’m not planning to go anywhere except the Old Residence with Renren."
"Thank you, Miss Penny."
"Right. If it’s fine with you, can you pick up something for me?" She smiled. "I asked Lily to get me something while she was on her trip. She’ll be back tomorrow."
"..." Mark didn’t speak any further, slowly looking back at her, his face now gloomy. "Miss Penny, did I do something wrong?"
"Huh?"
"Why are you sending me to pick up something from her? Unless you want to punish me?"
Her face contorted, laughing awkwardly. "Is accompanying Lily that awful?" she asked, and he nodded without a second thought. "Okay. Then, just forget about what I asked. I’ll ask someone else to do it."
"Thank you, Miss Penny."
Penny shook her head but couldn’t really blame him for it. Lily could be a little overwhelming sometimes. With that, Penny noticed that they had reached the gates of her husband’s home. Her smile returned as she perked up, and the closer they got to the porch of the residence, the brighter her smile became.
There, standing outside was Zoren, holding Chunchun in his arms, with Renny beside him.
As soon as the car stopped, Penny jumped out and happily announced, "I’m home~!"
