[MILLER’S COMPANY]
Today, the Miller family was making the buyout official.
Theo and Mr. Miller gathered a few reporters and media personnel to cover this event. As they arrived and sat down in their respective seats, they heard someone announce. Turning their heads toward the other door, both father and son nearly fell out of their seats.
"What... what’s going on...?" Theo breathed, his wide eyes fixated on the approaching Charles Bennet. "Why is Mr. Bennet here and not Penelope?"
Mr. Miller, who used to banter with Charles, had to hold the table to keep himself from falling. Only when Charles was standing before them did the father and son realize their rude reaction.
"Ah!" Mr. Miller kicked his son’s chair. "Mr. Bennet! It’s nice to see you after a while."
Mr. Miller reached out to Charles, smiling amicably as they greeted each other as if they had always had a great relationship. However, that was far from the truth. Mr. Miller and Charles used to argue over the smallest things.
Their fights weren’t even childish. There was a time when they almost threw fists, if not for the people around them stopping them.
"It has been!" Charles forced a smile, gripping Mr. Miller’s hand as if he had plans to break it. "Who would have thought, right?"
"Yes... who would have...?" Mr. Miller winced when Charles finally released his hand. He secretly cast Charles a glare, thinking, ’Has he not forgotten what happened the last time we met? I already apologized — Atlas is indeed his son!’
Despite Mr. Miller’s internal thoughts, he maintained a smile. With all the cameras and people watching them, he had to make sure nothing was amiss.
Meanwhile, Theo straightened his back and offered his hand to Charles politely. "I apologize for being rude, Sir Charles. I was a little shocked, but it’s an honor to meet you."
"Haha. Don’t worry. I would also be surprised since I’m sure you were expecting my daughter to be here." Unlike his treatment of Mr. Miller, Charles was more lenient toward Theo.
"Hehe..." Theo laughed awkwardly before mustering the courage to ask, "Where is she, sir?"
"My daughter has a lot of things on her plate, so she asked me to take charge for a while." Charles winked at Theo. "Don’t worry. I’ve been in this business for decades, so you don’t need to worry."
In contrast to what Charles was saying, Theo’s eyes sparkled with admiration and excitement. He even forgot that this was an official event and that the last thing he should be doing was looking at Charles like a child looking at a hero.
’This man is the one who led Global Prime Logistics to new heights, and in this industry, he is a legend,’ Theo thought. ’If not for him, the Miller Company and Global Prime Logistics would still be on the same level. Besides, he was the one who trained Atlas Bennet.’
Was this what Penny meant when she said Theo needed proper guidance?
Would Charles train him too?
The mere thought of it almost made Theo jump. Not that he hated his father or didn’t respect Mr. Miller, but Theo knew he needed to learn from more successful people and absorb their ways.
[GLOBAL PRIME LOGISTICS]
"Sir," the assistant called, her expression making Stephen furrow his brows. She walked closer to him, covering her mouth as she whispered, "Our stocks are falling."
"What?" Deep lines instantly appeared between Stephen’s brows as he looked at his assistant in disbelief. But since there were too many people around, Stephen had to maintain his calm. "Everyone, please continue enjoying your drinks."
With that, he walked out of the meeting room and went straight to a separate meeting room where no one else was.
"What’s going on?" he asked the assistant, only for her to hand him a tablet with a live broadcast playing. "What is this?"
Taking the tablet, Stephen was more confused when he saw Mr. Miller speaking. When he saw the caption of the live broadcast, he became even more confused.
"The Millers have sold their company. What does that have to do with me..." Stephen trailed off as the camera shifted its focus to Charles, as a reporter asked him a question.
The assistant quickly caught the tablet as Stephen almost dropped it. "Sir, please brace yourself. We have a bigger problem than that right now." The second those words left her mouth, she switched tabs and showed Stephen the falling stock prices.
The second Stephen saw this, there was only one thing that crossed his mind:
’This is the retaliation... or rather, the start of their retaliation.’
This was what Charles warned him about.
