Open Marriage, Broken Promises: When Love Turns to Ashes novel Chapter 61

The seventh year of being with Jason Brooks.

It was also the day he achieved success and hosted his first personal art exhibition.

I secretly put on a wedding dress, gathered all my courage, and planned to propose to him at the exhibition.

He stood on the podium in a perfectly tailored suit, every move exuding charm.

When a reporter asked him who he wanted to thank the most,

he smiled and looked at the crowd.

"The person I want to thank is here with us today."

My heart raced, and I tightened my grip on my tulle skirt, ready to walk toward him.

But as I took a step, I heard him say,

"Grace Mitchell, come over here."

I froze in place, looking ahead to see a young girl lifting her skirt as she walked toward him.

They stood side by side, the man handsome, the woman delicate, truly a perfect match.

If the person on the stage wasn't my boyfriend, I would've thought the same.

Jason wrapped his arm around her, each word he said praising her for supporting him through these years of success.

I stood there, the color draining from my face.

I really wanted to rush over and ask her. What about me?

What am I to you?

Afterward, I went to the backstage and overheard their conversation.

"Jason, such an important occasion, why didn't your wife come?"

Jason replied casually, "Who cares whether she comes or not? It's better if she doesn't."

"You've been together for so many years, aren't you planning to get married?"

The girl's voice was youthful, with a hint of jealousy.

"Tch, just because we've been together for a long time doesn't mean we have to get married."

"Seven years with her, I'm already tired of it."

I could hear his friend agreeing with him.

"Yeah, eating the same dish every day, who wouldn't get tired?"

"But now it's perfect, you can break up with Elena and be with Grace. Our Grace has liked you for a long time."

"Pfft! What nonsense? Jason and I are just friends."

I heard their playful banter.

"Oh? This so-called pure friendship, doesn't it happen in bed?"

"You've gone too far, Hu Nan."

Jason's angry voice rang out.

"Grace isn't someone you can joke about like that. If I'm with her, I'm going to give her the grandest confession!"

I couldn't bear to listen anymore, so I left directly.

Anyone who saw a person in a wedding dress crying helplessly on the side of the road would probably find it laughable.

It was at that moment that I made my decision to break up.

As he spoke, he lowered his head and gently gazed at the person in his arms.

"I don't want her to suffer, so as for the girlfriend position, you should step aside and let it go."

I clenched my hands, my nails digging into my flesh, but I felt no pain.

"So let's break up."

I let out a light laugh, saying calmly, "Fine, that's fine."

He looked at me in surprise, not expecting me to be so decisive.

Perhaps he thought I would throw a tantrum, crying and begging him not to leave.

Jason nodded, "It's okay, even if we break up, we can still be friends."

"If you need anything in the future, you can come to me."

"As long as it's not too much, I won't refuse you."

"Okay, is that all?"

I looked up, only to find that Jason's gaze was no longer on me.

He had lowered his head and was gently kissing Grace.

Grace, with a shy expression, gently pushed him away, "Don't, there are others here."

Jason smiled and glanced at me.

"Are you still not leaving?"

I numbly gave him one last glance before quickly turning and walking away.
