Chapter 119
The anger that had gripped me only moments ago still simmers beneath the surface. And even though Harley’s soft touch has grounded me, weight of the situation, the threat I’m facing, and the danger surrounding her… It still lingers. I can’t ignore it. I don’t want to ignore it.

The bond between us is undeniable now. When she calmed me down earlier, it only solidified what I already knew deep down–she has the power to undo me. It’s terrifying, and at the same time, it’s the only thing that makes me feel anything real anymore. But that’s a double–edged sword,
I know I have to protect her, but the more I let her in, the harder it will be to keep her safe. The more I love her, the more vulnerable I become.
My thoughts are still clouded as I watch her, her gaze still searching mine. But it’s the unflinching resolve in them that helps me decide what happens next, I need to tell her. The weight of the threat, the danger, it’s too much to keep from her any longer. I can’t keep her in the dark. Not
anymore.
Before I can voice any of this to her, the door to the office creaks open, and Griffin strolls in again. He’s holding a couple of bottles of water in his hand, placing them on the polished surface of my desk.
“Everything okay in here?” he asks, arching an eyebrow. He looks between us, his usual teasing smile briefly crossing his lips before he sees the tension in the air.
1 meet his gaze over her shoulder, and without needing further explanation, I tell him, “I’m going to tell her everything. I then take a deep breath, the weight of the words heavy on my chest, because I know once I do, there’s no going back.
Griffin nods solemnly, giving me a knowing look before saying, “Good call, boss. It’s time.” He steps towards the guest chair he sat in earlier, sinks onto it, and then waits, allowing me to lead this conversation.
Taking a step back, I sit down behind my desk, and for a moment, I watch Harley as she moves to join Griffin on the other side. But then something inside me stirs, the bond between us tugging at my chest, urging me to pull her back to me. So I don’t think I just act.
I gently reach for her hand and slightly pull her toward me. Sit with me?” I ask quietly.
-She looks at me for a moment, searching my expression, before she nods and then moves easily, settling sideways on my lap with an ease that
only deepens the connection I feel towards her. When her one hand naturally comes to rest on my chest, I find myself relaxing slightly.
My right hand slides underneath her sweater and comes to rest on her bare hipbone, allowing me to feel the heat of her skin, and the mundane contact grounds me in a way nothing else can right now. My left hand goes to her upper thighs, pulling her that much closer to me. With everything that’s happening and everything that’s about to unfold, this moment–holding her like this–keeps me tethered to something real.
“Thane,” she says softly, her voice warm against the quiet tension in the air. “What’s going on? What’s all this about?”
Her question brings me back to the task at hand, so I strengthen my resolve not to let myself get lost in her. Not now.
Taking a steadying breath, I turn to Griffin, and he matter–of–factly starts to explain. “Holland, our cybersecurity expert, found out that two of our old acquaintances, Raven and Andras, have been seen together several times recently. And even though we don’t know exactly what they’re planning, the mere fact that they’re in contact with each other is worrying enough.”
I watch Harley’s reaction closely as she listens to Griffin, her face still thoughtful, but I can see the concern creeping into the edges of her expression.
“Who
are they?” she asks after a beat, her voice steady, but I can hear the undercurrent of uncertainty.
“Raven and Andras,” I explain. “They’re both powerful, dangerous vampires. Raven and I have a complicated history, to put it mildly. She wanted more than just power–She wanted me. To be my mate. But I never felt the bond like I do with you.” I pause, watching Harley’s expression shift as I bring up my ex. “And Andras is my cousin. He’s always wanted what I have. He always believed the Vampire King title should have been his. He wagts power. My place. My throne.”
lai’s voice ruts in, hesitant but clear. “They know about you, Harley. Not that you

Harley stays quiet for a few moments, her unseeing gaze locked onto my Edvard Munch painting titled “Vampire‘ that’s mounted on the wall beside my desk, as she absorbs the weight of what we’ve just told her. I can see the storm of thoughts running behind her eyes, the worry, the confusion. But I can’t rush her or her thought process. I can’t force her into something that she never wanted to begin with.
She looks at me then, and for a long moment, I feel the full weight of her gaze, before it becomes clear–she’s not running, and she’s not backing
