When he was done, he left the building. As he walked past the guards, he snapped his fingers, and the black mist buried inside the guards’ bodies suddenly moved toward their brains and attacked the hippocampus, the part crucial to memory formation.

After he altered the guards’ memories, he walked back to the area where the survivors were living. Ten minutes later, the black mist inside the guards’ bodies disappeared without a trace, and they soon woke up dazed.

The guards looked at each other, and one of them asked, “What’s going on? Why did we both fall asleep?”

Another guard tried to recall what was going on, but he couldn’t think of anything at all. After a moment, he said, “Maybe we are too tired.”
