Trapped in the Mist of Longing novel Chapter 6

Calista found it laughable after hearing Noah's answer.

No wonder every time she got upset in the past, Noah would always find some way to placate her, whether with gifts or sweet talk. And once she calmed down, he'd go right back to being distant and indifferent.

She used to think that the reason he hadn't accepted her was that she hadn't done well enough. But now that she thought about it, it wasn't that she wasn't good enough. Noah just wanted to keep her chasing after him for as long as possible.

Right now, she felt oddly relieved. Choosing to marry someone else was the right decision.

With the key in hand, she went downstairs and got into a cab. When she was about to head back, Calista caught sight of a familiar figure from inside the cab—Patricia.

From where she sat, she saw Patricia make a phone call. One minute later, Noah came down himself to meet her.

He pulled Patricia into his arms. "It's freezing. What are you doing here?"

"I missed you. Can't I come meet you?"

"Of course you can."

Noah gently held Patricia in his arms and walked her back upstairs. They hadn't gone far before Patricia's shoelaces came undone. Without even thinking, he crouched to tie her shoelaces, his eyes full of affection.

Calista's pupils contracted at the sight of Noah tying Patricia's shoelaces.

In the past, she had always been the one doing those things. She never imagined that the ever-proud Noah would stoop to tie someone else's shoes.

A friend of Noah's, who had come out to smoke, was also shocked by the sight. "Holy shit. I didn't expect the mighty CEO of Skeldon Group would actually tie someone else's shoes."

Clearly annoyed, Noah snapped at his friend to put out his cigarette, "Tricia can't stand the smell of cigarettes. If you want to smoke, go far away. And don't you dare curse in front of Tricia. If you scare her, you'll have me to deal with!"

His friend was frightened by Noah's warning and quickly ran off.

Inside the cab, Calista watched Noah go out of his way to protect Patricia in front of his friend. She felt even more pathetic.

All these years, no matter how his friends joked about her right in front of her, Noah had always acted indifferently. He made no move to stop them.

But when it came to Patricia, all it took was a cigarette and a curse word for Noah to blow up as if he wanted to skin the guy alive.

Everything was crystal clear now.

By the time Calista got home, it was already 2:00 am.
