Chapter 39 The Mole in the Company

Damian sneered, his sharp, beautiful eyes gleaming with at dangerous glint.

So confident I won’t find her, are you?

Scott stiffened, then slowly sank back into his chair. His voice carried a hint of frustration.

When someone wants to pin a crime on you, they’ll always find a reason. Mr. Crowley, if you’re looking for an excuse to fire me, just say the word. There’s no need to make baseless accusations.

My only concern is where Ms. Lawson is.

A loud slam cut through the tensionDamian had smacked the table, the crack of impact sharp and sudden.

His expression, unreadable just moments ago, had turned cold and furious.

Scott flinched but forced himself to stay calm. He straightened, clenching his jaw.

I don’t know where Ms. Lawson is! If you insist on blaming me, then show me proof!

Damian narrowed his eyes, pulling back his rage just enough to study the man. Something is off.

Scott wasn’t panicking. He wasn’t rattled like Daniel. In

fact, there was a flicker of smugness behind the fear, a quiet confidence he was trying to hide.

Did he really not know anything? Or was he celebrating too early?

Damian’s gut twisted. A bad feeling crept in.

Could she really be gone?

He slowly curled his fingers into a fist, jaw light.

I have a terrible habit,he said coolly. I protect what’s mine. And when someone touches what’s mine, I don’t need proof to burn them to the ground. You seem eager to find that out firsthand.

His gaze dropped like a guillotine. Scott swallowed hard, throat bobbing.

But then he rallied, reassuring himself silently.

I’m not scared.

Daniel locked her up. She jumped into the sea.

It’s not on me.

He forced out a calm reply.

Mr. Crowley, I understand you’re worried. We all are. I know you’re. angry, and you’re taking it out on Daniel and mewe don’t dare complain. But please, don’t take it out on everyone else.

These are good people. They’ve worked hard for this company. If they’re punished because of one woman, they’ll lose all faith in you.

As he spoke, tears welled in his eyes and slid down his cheeks.

A few people in the room, unaware of the full truth, began to waver. Whispers spread. Doubt crept in. Scott had planted the seeds.

He was aiming straight for Harper.

And sure enough, her expression turned cold.

Damian’s jaw tightened. The air around him turned lethal.

Just then, Killian returned from a phone call, visibly relieved. He strode quickly to Damian’s side and leaned in to whisper,

Daniel confessed. Ms. Lawson was locked up in his old house.

Damian’s eyes narrowed. Desmond will go there. Youtake a

smash Scott’s head without hesitation.

Yeah.Damian drawled, watching Scott’s face stiffen slightly. What? Mr. Harrington, are you afraid?

Scott was caught off guard for a moment, then burst into laughter. Afraid? Why would I be? I’m relieved. Finally, I can prove my innocence. This is great.

But inside, he thought, Even if they find her, it’ll be a corpse. Don’t try to scare me.

Is Ms. Lawson really that important to you?

Harper finally snapped, her frustration boiling over.

She slammed her bag down on the table, her voice sharp. I’ve had enough of hearing how much you care about her! You’ve never been so anxious about anyone before.

Damian’s gaze shifted to her, stern and unwavering.

Do you know why she came to the factory and why she disappeared?

Harper’s frustration flared. Are you kidding me? I’m the general manager of the branch! Why should I care about a secretary who’s been on the job for less than three days? It’s you, as the president, who’s making such a fuss over her. It’s as if your wife went missing!

Harper, if you’d focus more on your work instead of my

Harper’s heart sank as she realized too late that she had been manipulated. She had intended to help Damian, but now it was beyond repair.

Nervously, she turned to Damian, but he stood with his arms folded, calm and composed, not even sparing her a glance.

Damian, don’t you have anything to say?she asked desperately.
