Trapped in the boss's embrace (by Katrina A) novel Chapter 130

Chapter 130 I'm Chill as Hell

Desmond reacted instantly, clamping a hand over Autumn's mouth as he dragged her behind the nearest tree.

Madeline's scream tore through the orchard—primal, piercing—drowning out Autumn's muffled gasp.

The chaos had Beatrice's crew so transfixed they missed both the newcomers hiding behind the trunk and their own teammates concealed by the shed.

"Help! Somebody!"

Madeline only snapped to it when the knife came down.

She tried to bolt, but her wrist was in a death grip. She dodged the kill shot in a panic, but the blade still sank into her shoulder.

The pain hit like a truck—she let out a shriek that could wake the dead.

Nico pissed she missed the neck, yanked the knife out and stabbed again, hard.

"Mom! Mark!"

Madeline screamed in terror, throwing her hand up to block.

Next second, the knife punched clean through her palm.

"Ah—!"

Her wails echoed through the orchard, louder and more unhinged.

Jane, hearing her daughter, bawled her eyes out.

She dropped to her knees, pleading with Beatrice's crew through teary stares to save Madeline.

No one moved.

Karma's a bitch, huh? Beatrice thought coldly. Your angel gets mercy ours never did.

"Nico, please!" Madeline's voice cracked, true terror setting in. "I'll pay you—anything! Name it!"

Nico twisted the embedded knife like a corkscrew. Fresh blood arced onto the dirt. "I told you," she hissed, "I want you dead."

Madeline was half-gone, pain about to knock her out.

Nico ripped the knife free a third time, pinning her neck with one hand, raising the blade with murder in her eyes.

Madeline thrashed, shoving at the chokehold, but Nico's grip was freakish—like some ghost had juiced her up.

What if ghosts are real?

Is Noah possessing her to take me out?

"I'm sorry. Don't kill me, please!"

Sobbing, begging—so pitiful, so desperate.

Just like Nico back then.

Nico stared back, her eyes flat—nothing left but a void.

No pain, no tears—just one mission. Drag this chick to hell and atone.

She hoisted the knife high.

This strike? Madeline was toast—no dodging it.

"No—!"

Madeline squeezed her eyes shut, breaking.

As the blade dropped, a peach sailed out of the shadows and nailed Nico's wrist.

The knife hit the dirt.

Nico froze, startled.

She scrambled to grab it.

"Don't kill me. Don't kill me!"

Madeline's survival instinct kicked in—she shoved Nico off with everything she had and bolted like a bat outta hell.

Nico snatched the knife and gave chase.

Madeline didn't get far—her foot slipped, and she plunged into the pond, water swallowing her head.

She choked on two gulps before flailing to swim.

Nico jumped in after her, with no hesitation, grabbing her leg.

"Die—we're dying together!"

Madeline kicked like crazy, trying to shake this "water demon," but Nico's grip was iron—death wouldn't loosen it.

Her strength faded, her body sinking limp into the murk.

Nico's mind blurred too. In the haze, she swore Noah swam up beside her, flashing that old, goofy grin.

"Sorry, sorry, sorry..."

She'd whispered it for nights on end—now, finally, she could let go.
