The Pack's Doctor novel Chapter 242

Chapter 242

Yorick

I’m so excited that Cyra is here. I didn’t want to ask her to come because it means she’s missing classes, but I really wanted to see her.

We don’t have time to do a full round of introductions. They’re ready for us inside. Can you stay afterward, Cyra? We can all go to lunch.”

Of course, she says. I kiss her again and then lead the group inside. When we get to the court room where the Council is already seated, i make sure Cyra is settled beside my mother and sisters and then I lead Wendy to the front. I squeeze her hand briefly to let her know that I’m

here for her.

As we walk forward, I see the Tech Team on my left. They are in a triangular formation with Tracker at point. They are standing in the exact same position, legs shoulder width apart with their hands clasped in front of them. As we walk up, I’m pretty sure I see Hacker and Hijack wink at Wendy. When I glance at my sister, I see her blushing.

Standing to the right of the room are Alpha Nevaeh, and Warriors Callie, Soren, and Ronan. Directly in front of the Council is Alpha Leo, surrounded by what looks like a military squad.

Alpha Yorick Hill?the lead councilman asks. There are four council members seated on a raised platform with the lead councilman standing

at the front.

Yes,I say. Connor said to only answer what is asked and nothing more.

The councilman turns to Wendy.

Alpha Wendy Hill?

Yes, sir,she says.

I am Councilman Edward Richardson. My fellow council members are Rebecca Kaufmann, Jared Jackson, Leslie Sneed, and Nicholas Fellows. Do you know why you’ve been summoned before the Council today?he asks.

Yes, sir. We are here because of the allegations against Alpha Leo, allegations that probably came to light because I had questions about a student that was admitted to the Academy this year,I answer

A student that you ended up killing, is that correct?he asks.

Yes, that’s correct. He went after my mate. I retaliated.

He glances at my neck, then looks behind me. You seem to have brought a small army with you today.”

They’re mostly here for Wendy. She’s underage as I’m sure you know,I say.

Councilman Richardson looks at Wendy. That’s quite a group of people you have here supporting you, young Alpha,he says kindly.

Yes sir. My family is very close. They love me,she says, turning to smile at our family behind us before turning back.

I can see that,he says. So, Alpha Yorick, how about we start with you. You noticed that the warrior, Jory, wasn’t up to the standards of the Academy, is that correct?

Yes, Councilman. I noticed during sparring matches that he was the weakest in the group. And while there will always be someone who is the weakest, his lack of skills on the sparring field were obvious when compared to the others in the class. One of my friends is a warrior and he’s much more powerful than Jory was,I say.

How is it that your sister became involved?he asks.

I asked her to look into Jory for me. I wasdealing with some other things and I knew my sister was smart enough to get the information I needed faster than I could.I don’t want to bring up Cyra’s alliance bond. That’s not what this is about and I’m not sure Cyra is ready for the. Council to hear about it yet.

He nods, then turns to Wendy. And what is it that you did, exactly, when you looked into Warrior Jory, young Alpha?

I notice my sister is standing up straight with surprising confidence. Whether intentional or not, she’s taken the same stance as the Tech Team who have now all turned their attention to her.

Councilman, after Yorick asked me to look into Jory, I did so. What I found was that he did not meet the criteria of admission based on the Academy’s guidelines and principles.

How do you know the Academy’s guidelines and principles, Alpha Wendy?he asks, interrupting her.

They’re posted on your website, sir,” she says. I press my lips together. Wendy’s tone implies that he should have known that and not asked her a dumb question.

So they are. Please continue Alpha.”

Once I realized that he was not eligible for the Academy, I began digging deeper to see who accepted him. I reviewed the Academy’s policy on admissions, and found that Alpha Leo, as the Lead Instructor of the Academy, gives the final stamp of approval on all admissions.”

Councilman Edward turns to Alpha Nevaeh.

Is that correct, Alpha?

Yes, it is, Councilman,she says.

Please continue Alpha Wendy.

I wanted to know why. Why was someone who shouldn’t have been admitted allowed entry into the Academy?

And what did you find?he asks her.

Nothing. I hit a firewall and wasn’t able to go any further in my search.

He nods and turns to the Tech Team. When did the Team first realize that Alpha Leo was being investigated by Alpha Wendy?

Based on article three, section seven of the Code of Conduct for the Council’s Technology Team, we monitor any searches on the instructors at the Academy. When an alert came in that Alpha Leo’s name was being searched, I pulled the information and identified Alpha Wendy as the person who was searching for information on Alpha Leo. I then passed that information to Hacker,Tracker says.

I’m surprised when the Councilman addresses Hacker by his codename.

And what did you do with this information, Hacker?the councilman asks.

I hacked into Alpha Wendy’s computer and reviewed the information that she’d found. When I determined that she was correct in her assumption that something was off, I handed the information to Hijack.

The councilman turns to Hijack.

I took the information that Alpha Wendy collected and based on article eight, section fifteen of the Code of Conduct for the Council’s Technology Team, I broke past the firewalls and dug into Alpha Leo’s financial statements, finding large payments, one each year for the past five years just before the start of the school year. This year, that payment came from Warrior Jory’s father. After digging into Alpha Leo’s

financials, I was able to determine that the payments he received over the course of five years came from parents or Alphas of students that

did not meet the criteria of the Academy,Hijack says.

The councilman looks down at a stack of papers in front of him and then turns to the other council members, murmuring quietly.

The Tech Team feels that Alpha Yorick was unduly targeted by Alpha Leo, possibly because Alpha Leo found out that Alpha Yorick realized what was happening, is that correct?he asks.

There is another issue that we feel has caused Alpha Leo to target Alpha Yorick. However, the Tech Team has signed a confidentiality agreement with the client on that particular issue and we are unable to speak to that at this time,Tracker says.

Councilman Edward turns back to me. Are you the client?

No, sir, I am not. But I do know what the issue is. I would agree that it is likely that someone else realized that Apha Leo has taken bribes and

used that information for him to unfairly evict me from the Academy,I say.

He glares at Alpha Leo for a moment, before turning to Alpha Nevaeh.

Alpha Nevaeh, what do the other instructors think about Alpha Yorick’s assertion that he was unfairly targeted,he asks.

I cannot speak to the reasons why, Councilman, but the other instructors and I agree that Alpha Leo was targeting Alpha Yorick with the

expectation of pushing him out of the Academy, she says.

Alpha Leo growls loudly, but it cuts off quickly when a powerful looking man puts his hand on the back of Alpha Leo’s neck and lets his claws extend just enough to puncture the skin.

Alpha Leo, you have jeopardized the integrity of this Academy and by doing so, you have created a problem for the Board and the Council. You took bribes to accept students who were eligible to attend, inadvertently causing the death of a student this year, and then tried to dismiss a student who is clearly eligible to attend. Our Tech Team has also found evidence that you have become addicted to alcohol and sex since the death of your mate. Because there are young pups in the courtroom today, we will not show that evidence here. The Council has made its decision. We are ordering you stripped of your Alpha title, you will spend one year in prison, and you will attend grief and addiction counseling. You will follow all recommendations of your therapists, and you will maintain good behavior in prison or your sentence will be extended. Do you understand?Councilman Edward asks him.

NO!he screams.

Can they do that? Take away his Alpha title?Wendy whispers to me.

They just did,I murmur.

As they drag Alpha Leo out of the courtroom, I realize that he’s crying. I almost feel sorry for him. Almost.

Alpha Yorick,Councilman Edward says, looking at me.

Yes sir.

You will be reinstated at the Academy, effectively immediately,he says.

Yes!I hear Cyra shout before slapping a hand over her mouth.

Councilman Edward glances at her, but before he can scold her, I answer.

Thank you, sir.

He nods then looks down at his papers again. Since we haven’t been dismissed, Wendy and I continue to stand there waiting.
