Alicia collapsed to the floor, wailing and crying hysterically. She looked like a madwoman. 

Seeing this, Layla shook her head and said sadly, “Your family has pampered you too much. It’s because they weren’t willing to educate you properly that you ended up in such a sorry situation!‘ 

Alicia was still crying and kicking up a fuss. 

I didn’t feel like listening to a single word they said. I simply watched the door of the operating room silently, hoping that Jonathan would be alright. 

The light above the operating room door went out. My eyes lit up, and I immediately called out to Layla and Alicia, “Be quiet. The operation is over.” 

Layla shut up instantly and lifted her hand to signal her bodyguards to drag Alicia away. 

She then glanced at me and said nothing. 

We each knew what the other was thinking, so there was no need for words. 

She lived in a completely different world from me, and our relationship as in–laws wasn’t exactly 

a harmonious one. At most, we shared a mutual respect for each other. 

The doctor walked out, and we both stepped forward at the same time, asking, “How’s Jonathan?” 

The doctor sighed. “We’ve already stitched up his wound, but the rest will be up to his own willpower…” 

He spoke with great tact, but both Layla and I understood what he truly meant. 

After a long silence, Jonathan was sent to a VIP ward to be placed under observation, and the two 

of us followed behind. 

Neither of us said anything. Perhaps we just didn’t have the energy to speak anymore. 

Layla’s eyes were bloodshot, and she showed none of the domineering persona she had displayed before when dealing with Alicia, 

At the end of the day, she was just a mother worried about her son. 

As I sat by the bedside and looked at Jonathan’s closed eyes, I couldn’t resist murmuring, “Sorry…” 

My voice was a little hoarse and sounded choked. 

Layla ignored me at first. After a while, she finally replied, “I’d be lying if I said that I don’t blame you, but I know the issue lies with Alicia…”
