Islinda had not been listening to whatever Eli had been saying, lost in her own thoughts as one thing dawned on her. Eli was not under Elena’s manipulation.
Aldric and Eli might share the same body but they were split personalities. While Elena might have ensnared Aldric’s mind with her charms, she couldn’t have possibly known his mind was shattered and there was another personality inside of him she hadn’t been able to capture. Hope blossomed inside of Islinda at the realization, and she was filled with utmost joy at the possibility of things turning out fine in the end.
Eli was here now.
Elena was doomed.
Aldric would be saved.
"Are you even listening to what I am saying, princess?" Eli called to her attention.
"What?" Islinda replied in a daze, staring at his face.
Eli frowned, yet he patiently told her, "I might have ignored everything Aldric has done to you so far, but not this time around, how dare he lay a hand on you?" The veins in his neck bulged from the anger surging through him.
Islinda realized Eli thought Aldric had strangled her on purpose. He didn’t know his host was being manipulated. So she tried to explain to him. "No, that’s not the case Eli —"
"Don’t defend him, princess." He sounded furious.
"No, I’m not trying to defend him, it’s just that —"
"I know you’re only trying to be considerate but it wouldn’t change my mind. I know he’s my host and it’s going to be hard, but I’ll chaining him in my utmost consciousness this time. I’ll ensure he’s trapped in such a way that he would never be able to ever hurt you again. " He clasped her face, swearing to her with utmost conviction.
Islinda was stunned, her jaw nearly falling to the ground. Eli was about to trap Aldric forever. Was that even possible? Islinda had no idea, but something about the firmness in Eli’s tone told her she was about to find out. However, Islinda could not let that happen. Aldric was innocent. At Least he didn’t know what he was doing.
As Islinda parted her lips to speak, she was met with Eli’s tense and aggressive demeanor, ready to pounce at any sign of defense for Aldric. Islinda was filled with frustration, realizing she needed to communicate Aldric’s dire situation, but Eli’s hostility stifled her words.
Damn it. How could she convey to Eli that Aldric was in danger if he wouldn’t let her speak? With his current demeanor, he might not even believe her, dismissing her words as feeble attempts to excuse Aldric’s actions against her.
Although.... she did have her feminine wiles to calm Eli down enough to hear the truth. Her body tingled at the idea, her heart raced, her breath held in anticipation, while her face lit up in excitement.
Having come perilously close to losing Aldric to Elena’s manipulations, Islinda was forced to confront the depth of her feelings for him. Despite his flaws, his past deeds, and the chaos that seemed to follow him, Aldric held a significant place in her heart. He may be the villain in others’ stories, but to her, he was something more.
For so long, Islinda had fought against her growing affection for Aldric, fearing the consequences of embracing someone so tumultuous. But in the wake of recent events, she realized that denying her feelings only led to heartache and uncertainty. Perhaps, she mused, the key was not to resist him, but to explore the possibility of acceptance—to give Aldric a chance, despite the risks involved.
Moreover, Islinda was weary of the charade. The constant push and pull of her emotions toward Aldric left her feeling like she was living a lie. One moment she yearned for him, the next she pushed him away—it all felt futile and exhausting. How long could she keep up the facade before even Aldric grew weary of her indecision? It was a game she was tired of playing, and she knew deep down that something had to change.
It sounded unfair that while in the human realm, she had given Valerie a chance, even knowing he was a Fae that could end her life with just a snap of his finger. What if Valerie had turned out to be the villain? Would she have given up on him? Islinda clearly knew the answer to that question. She wouldn’t care.
So why couldn’t she, too, recklessly give Aldric a chance? It felt unjust and hypocritical to deny him the opportunity when she yearned for it herself.
In that moment, Islinda felt as though her eyes were finally opened. She resolved that once Aldric was successfully liberated from Elena’s influence, she would bare her heart to him. They would give this er.... whatever disaster waiting to happen between them, aka a relationship, a try.
With that decision made, Islinda surrendered herself to him, losing herself in the kiss, succumbing to the overpowering passion that threatened to engulf them both.
