"This is going to be a long tale," Eli said, only to reach over without warning and hoist her from her seat, placing her on his lap instead.
"Y-you!" Islinda had a stunned expression, heat rushing to her cheeks, "What do you think you’re doing?" She tried to get down but Eli held on to her waist so firmly she might as well be pushing against a wall.
She glared at him but Eli declared innocently, "Don’t think I have ulterior motives, no, this was done with your best interest at work. My lap would be the most comfortable spot to place your bottom on."
"It’s not comfortable at all," Islinda told him, writhing like a fish out of water.
"Careful there, princess," Eli said with a strained voice, "I am quite sensitive down there."
"Then why keep me on your lap if you’re easily aroused?!" Islinda wanted to cry out from the stress. He was quite a handful.
"I’m just trying to be chivalrous. Females first, don’t you remember, princess?" Eli gave her a mean moue, "Or don’t you appreciate me being a romantic, princess? Isn’t this what the females want?"
What in the Fae was she seeing? Islinda was not just bewildered by his words, but reactions too. Eli was pouting like a sullen child. Well, she did get a testament to his acting prowess back in the human realm. But seeing that reaction on Aldric’s face was purely creepy – yet weirdly cute.
Funny enough, the same odd look was close to cracking Islinda up and she cleared her throat, "Fine, whatever helps you sleep at night."
Eli broke into a brilliant, impish smile.
"However, I think this position would be much better," Islinda said with malicious intent, raising her leg and hips so she was able to twist her way into sitting astride him.
Eli growled a warning when she deliberately ground against him, recognizing she was playing the same game he played moments ago.
"Now, that’s better." Islinda had the most innocent of looks as she sat comfortably on him, wrapping her arms around his neck to anchor herself even though her back touched the table. "This way, I can look into your beautiful eyes while speaking."
Eli raised a surprised brow, was she seriously flirting with him? That was new.
"Fine," He concurred, his smooth, rich, and sensually deep voice rumbling through her and causing her to shiver. And that was not the end because Eli cupped her ass and plastered her to his chest, his eyes gleaming, "Indeed, princess, this is the best position to talk."
"Unfortunately, with the king dead and no one to lead, the Fae pleaded with the Queens to teach their young and the two sister Queens made up their mind. They would vacate the castle fortress they had been calling home, the one built by their father and the birthplace of all Fae species, and it would become a place for all High Fae to learn what they could be.
"But it was this separation of the two queens that created a rift. Now living in two castles at opposite ends of the Realm and both ruling in very different ways, they both grew leery of the other. Power was additive and changed a Fae.
The Seelie Queen was the first to snap.
She believed her sister and her people were evil incarnate, darkness personified, and it was her duty to wipe out the darkness. Among her people, the Unseelie Fae were seen as evil incarnate, and their stories were used to scare their young.
"She sanctioned the first attack –although unknown to most Faerie– and the war began. The Seelie and Unseelie war raged for generations and both queens watched their Fae people, high and low alike, fall in waves. Eventually, the two sisters could not handle the grief anymore. They met on the battlefield alone and fought.
"Neither left that battlefield alive.
After the loss of their respective queen, both courts splintered, to be led by the faction leaders that had once been beside their Queens’ sides. Despite time having passed since the Seelie and Unseelie queens’ deaths, all Fae but most especially the High Fae still maintain the animosity of their centuries-long conflict. "
