Mated To My Boyfriend's Dad novel Chapter 162

Chapter 162: _Liam is the Imposter

Right now, Rhett found himself slumped behind the wheel of his car that was parked outside the precinct. Sunlight streamed through the windshield, giving a natural glow to the grimness of their pack.

Heaving and steadying his breath, Rhett pushed open the car door and stepped out. The air was cool and washed away the lingering feel of the dream that was still abound on him.

Activity buzzed around the precinct; soldiers milled about, their faces, though grim were content as they sorted through sweeping and had successfully restored order back in the precinct.

He straightened his uniform and headed inside, the clack of his boots against the polished floor echoing through the hallway. Heads turned as he entered and soon, a combination of relief and respect greeted him.

"Gamma Rhett," a young soldier greeted him with a weary smile. "Good to see you back."

"Likewise, Jerek," Rhett nodded, not returning the smile. "Any sign of Farkas yet?"

Jerek shook his head. "No, sir. Still out on his break."

Farkas was yet to be back? Rhett frowned. Something must have happened to keep Farkas off. When it came to punctuality, Farkas usually beat him to it. He hoped Farkas’s family were safe.

"Alright," Rhett said, trying to put his worry in place. "Keep me updated."

He made his way down the hallway, acknowledging the greetings of other soldiers with a nod and a word. Finally, he reached his office and more than he cared to accept, the familiar clutter on his desk was a comforting sight. As he sank into his chair, the weight of the dream settled on him.

He couldn’t help but reminisce on the Moon Goddess’s words. Their adversary could steal the form of others, but to do it, he had to eat their flesh. That explained all the weird eating of flesh and stuff.

That meant right now, that vampire could be anyone. But no, he couldn’t be JUST anyone. He could only be one of the dead ones. So, right now, one of the dead victims was the vampire.

The thing was, not all of the bones found had been identified. Like the little wolf’s bones. Hold on, the other victims weren’t eaten, so the vampire probably just fed on their blood. It made total sense that he was the one feeding on those victims since he could eat werewolves’ flesh, it meant their blood had no effects on him.

So, therefore, the ancient vampire could drink their blood without suffering the side effects.

That also meant whoever he was, or impersonating was between the owner of the small bones and the grown-up one they found in the beginning.

Right now, only the autopsy could solve this one puzzle. What the hell was taking it so long anyway?

Now that he was so close to apprehending this damn vampire, Rhett couldn’t wait. His patience was weaning. He felt like he was just a pinch close, making him more worked up and excited at the same time.

Finally, this case would soon be closed. It was all thanks to the Moon Goddess and her tip. She was the one who made him who he was. He owed his position to her as he could have never been able to do and solve some things without her help.

She was the very best goddess, worthy of worship.

Suddenly, a sharp knock on the door interrupted his thoughts.

Argh. Who the hell was that, interrupting his solitude? Oh, could it be Farkas?

Rhett’s mouth quirked up. "Come in," he called out.

The door creaked open but instead of Farkas, a soldier entered holding a stack of folders cradled in his arms.

Rhett grimaced at the unwelcome and unwanted face.

"Gamma Rhett, sir," said the soldier with a respectful salute. "These are the autopsy reports that were pending. They just arrived before you got back."

A-autopsy results?!

Just when he was contemplating it. Just when it was the one key to fishing out this imposter, it came right in time. This was yet another blessing from the Moon Goddess.

Things were finally moving forward. Finally!

A wave of relief washed over Rhett. These reports might also hold the key to unraveling the recent string of attacks. "Thank you," he said, taking the folders from the soldier. "Leave them on my desk please."

The soldier nodded and exited, leaving Rhett alone with the damning evidence. He eagerly flipped through the reports, his eyes scanning the pages.

But then again, he was wrong. He did suspect, even if it wasn’t intently, he did have some moments where he’d thought he wasn’t seeing a little boy but a body of malevolence.

Like the moment when he saw that fleeting figure climbing up Isleen’s window. That was Liam returning from killing Marie Beasley – their neighbor.

That was the vampire. All along, he had been right under their noses, mocking them.

Just as he reached the precinct doors, they swung open before he could get to them, revealing none other than the Alpha and Beta walking in.

Oh, please, not now. Rhett internally rolled his eyes at them. Look at them walking in gracefully after all the commotion was over and things were almost totally back in place.

How dare those two show their faces here? Now?

The Alpha was dressed in a black leather bomber jacket, casual blue henley shirt, black leather belt, Levi’s, and boots. Yet, despite his rather laid-back outfit, he commanded respect with his mere presence. Soldiers snapped to attention, saluting him with a crispness bordering on reverence. Darius, the dumb followed closely behind, a toothpick as stupid as he was was stuck between his teeth.

Rhett sighed and braced himself to receive them. "Alpha Beowulf, Beta Darius," he greeted them, his voice carefully neutral. "Your presence is — unexpected, but much needed, I must say."

Beowulf raised an eyebrow, and Rhett rejoiced when he saw annoyance crossing his face. "Unexpected? The pack is in shambles, and you claim our presence is unexpected?"

That was what Rhett intended to evoke in him – annoyance. Because, oh well, that was all the Alpha could evoke in them also.

"Well," Rhett hedged, maintaining composure, "things escalated quickly. We’ve been managing..."

Darius cut him off, with disdain. "Isn’t that what you’re here for, Gamma Rhett? To maintain order while the Alpha handles more... important matters?"

Grrrr!

When powerful men conversed, Darius ought to seal his mouth. And the Alpha was tending to important matters? What matters could be better than the safety of his pack?
