A minute?
I’f only been out for a minute? All of the time I spent in that dream world, talking to... the Moon Goddess - if truly that was her and not another figment of my imagination.
All of those times I spent talking to Gamma Rhett, arguing with him, and kissing him. All of those times were just a minute?
That shit really wasn’t real.
Just then, I remembered Kylo and Lupe. They were both hurt, I guess.
"What about Kylo and Lupe?" I asked Liam.
Liam’s worried expression deepened. "They’re hurt, Mom. But Lupe, she’s almost done healing. Kylo seems okay too, the healers say."
The healer?
What healer?
He pointed to a nearby makeshift shelter made of debris, where I saw them lying side-by-side, Cullen by their side and a fairy, graceful enough for me to know undoubtedly that it was Aceco tending to their wounds.
What was Aceco doing here?
Before I could even ponder on that further, a figure emerged from the smoke-filled landscape. A figure I knew too well.
My heart skipped a beat – it was Gamma Rhett. But unlike the carefree version from my dream, this Rhett was a warrior with a grim, his clothes tattered and bloodstained. The battle surely did take a lot from our pack.
However, from what I was seeing around, although there were debris, smoke, bodies, blood, and all sorts of unpleasant sights around, I could see that we had won.
"Liam?" I called to my boy weakly.
Liam turned to me. "Yes, Mom?"
"How did we win the battle in just a minute while I was out?" I asked, trying so hard to not look at Gamma Rhett or think about him.
Liam nodded and pointed at the axis that I was avoiding. "Aceco helped out. She came and cast a spell that froze all the vampires. Gamma Rhett and the soldiers slaughtered them while they were frozen."
"Oh." I breathed in sheer awe. "Aceco sure I’d very powerful. As powerful and graceful as they say."
Liam’s curious question came next. "But Mum?" He called. "B-but if she’s so powerful, why didn’t she just come here and protect us all? Why did we have to face that attack when she could have helped from the start of it all?"
"Hm, Liam. Aceco is a very important personality that would be needed in the grand finale of this war. She needs to be kept far away from the civilians and kept away in a safe place." I explained, happy that talking to him was keeping me from staring at Gamma Rhett who seemed to be protecting Aceco as she healed the gravely injured ones.
Wait. Didn’t this mean I was looking at him? How did I know he was protecting Aceco if I hadn’t been looking?
Argh. Isleen, behave!
Shame washed over me. Here he was, Gamma of the pack, burdened with the responsibility of saving his people from a devastating attack, and all I could think about was the bizarre dream and the enigmatic woman within it. The kiss and how warm and soft it felt.
Father forgive me for I have sinned.
Mustering all my strength, I managed a weak nod, hoping to convey my gratitude for his actions. He did save me earlier. He gave a curt nod in return but I could still see a hint of concern lingering in his eyes before he turned back to concentrating on Aceco.
Liam who had sensed my distress, squeezed my hand. "Don’t worry, Mom. You’ll be okay. They said the Omega receives treatment last, that’s why we can’t go there yet. But as soon as everyone else is done, Cullen would come..."
He had barely concluded that statement when two soldiers approached us.
"We’ll take it from here, little one." One of them smiled at Liam who seemed reluctant to let me go.
I nodded assuringly at him but before I could ask the soldiers where they were taking me, they already scooped me off my feet, careful not to aggravate my wounds, and took me in the direction of the shade.
To where Gamma Rhett and Kylo were. Geez. What in the fuck was this?
How was I supposed to react with Kylo and Gamma Rhett together in the same place? Under the same Shade?
Lord, save me.
