I woke up to the smell of coffee and a gentle caress in my hair. Flavian was sitting on the edge of the bed, running his hand tenderly through my hair. I opened my eyes and saw a small smile form on his lips.
“Good morning, sunshine!” I heard his deep, low voice, which awakened memories of the previous night, of him telling me how much he loved me while slowly making love to me.-
“Good morning, ray of light!” I smiled at him lazily. He leaned down and kissed me, then handed me a coffee mug.
“How are you feeling today?” He asked with concern in his voice.
“I’m fine. The wound hurts a little, but it’s nothing serious.” I replied, looking at the bandage on my arm.
“Hmm. It’s almost time for your pain medication.” He placed the Breakfast tray on the bed. “Eat.”
“Is that an order?” I laughed at his authoritative tone.
“It certainly is.” He smiled, playing along.
“Big guy, I need to report my stolen phone and block the line. I forgot about it yesterday.” I mentioned while drinking my coffee.
“Don’t worry, I’ve already taken care of all that. You have some jelly on your mouth.” He smiled and licked the corner of my mouth, cleaning off the jelly, and gave me a sweet kiss there. “Mmm! Delicious. Now I understand why you love apricot jelly so much.”
“What? Are you telling me you’ve never had apricot jelly?” I laughed at him, as that seemed impossible.
“Not on you, but I think I’ll start doing that.” Flavian commented, picking up the jelly jar and examining it.
My eyes were wide, fixed on him. He gave a mischievous smile and put the jar back on the tray.
“That’ll be for another time, little one. Now we’re going to the mall to buy you a new phone.”
“You don’t have to, big guy. I have my old one.” I replied, biting the last piece of toast with jelly.
“The one your mom keeps bothering you on and that you keep turned off most of the time? No, little one, I want to be able to talk to you anytime.” He complained.
“You hardly ever call me, Flavian, and you can call me at the office too.” My words came out more like a complaint than intended.
“Are
you complaining that I don’t call you enough?” His eyes sparkled with amusement as he stared at me.
“Yes, I am!” I answered boldly, and his smile widened.
“Does my little one miss me?” He was enjoying this.
“More than I should.” I replied, getting irritated with his smugness. He removed the tray from my lap and placed it on the nightstand, coming over me.
“How much do you miss me?” He asked, rubbing his nose against mine.
“The days are long and endless, and most of them I think about dropping out of college to get home earlier, jump into your lap and ask you to make love to me.” I answered, and his smile grew wider.
“Why don’t you call me to tell me this, to say you miss me, to say you want to make love to me? I wou e to hear you saying that every day,” he asked, making me remember the last times I called him when he was distant and dismissed me quickly.
“Because whenever I call you, you’re too busy to talk to me,” I said with disappointment in my voice. He tensed up, his whole body went still, and the smile died on his lips.

“Don’t worry, Flavian, I know your work is complicated, I know you can’t always answer, and I know you have many concerns,” I tried to soften the moment again, but it was in vain.
He rested his forehead against mine and sighed, seeming to fight an internal battle. When he opened his eyes again, they were sad, and his voice was solemn.
“My little one, I’m sorry, I know things are confusing right now, but please don’t give up on me, things will go back to how they were before, as soon as…” He stopped speaking before completing the sentence.
“As soon as what?” I asked because I needed to know what was happening; too much time had passed without him opening up
