Anna looked hurt and said, “Stella, I honestly don’t know how to handle you. Who my parents liked or who my brother liked wasn’t something I could control. Please don’t treat me like I’m your enemy.
“Stella, I’ve already given you that family. I’m never going back. If you want, I’ll even change my last name.”
Monroe stepped in front of Anna, protective, and shot Stella a warning look. “That’s enough. I know everything you did to her. She’s mine
now. If you touch her, you’re messing with me. That’s way too far.”
Stella sneered, “Mr. Johnson, I don’t know why, but I always thought you were smart. Guess I was just fooling myself.”
Monroe’s face darkened. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
Stella said nothing but looked at Anna behind him. “I’m curious how long you can keep fooling someone else. Sooner or later, everyone’s gonna see who you are. Honestly, I’m excited to see how badly you’ll crash.”
She ignored Monroe and walked off with Jordan. Monroe turned to comfort Anna. “It’s alright now. I’m here.”
Anna trembled, sneaking nervous looks at Stella. “Did she leave? She won’t hurt me anymore, right?”
Monroe said, “No, don’t worry.”
Anna threw herself into his arms. Monroe’s eyes softened immediately. Anna said, “Monroe, you’re all I’ve got.”
Monroe answered, “I know. I’ll keep you safe.”
Anna nodded. Watching Monroe care for her, she smiled to herself. But he was just another person she was tricking. Anna didn’t have a choice. Monroe was better than Lionel in every way, but he had one big flaw. He was an illegitimate son.
She could never be with someone like that. If he ever got kicked out, she’d have to go with him. She didn’t want that. But for now, she had no choice but to keep fooling him. If someone better came along, she’d leave right away.
Maybe because of the last party at the Chamber of Commerce, everyone had seen how ruthless Stella was. Seeing her again, people paid
attention when she spoke.
They realized that even though Stella was young, she had sharp insight. Some even got along well with her and exchanged contact info.
Stella looked confident, making Lionel proud. Since the Quinn family was in such bad shape, Lionel tried to connect with a lot of people, but most just ignored him like he wasn’t there.
He expected that, but still felt disappointed. Taking over the Quinn group showed him how bad things really were. It was an empty shell. Trying to find investors felt like throwing money into a bottomless pit.
Lionel wanted to shut down the company and start fresh, but his parents insisted on keeping up appearances. They refused to let the Quinn
group fail.
Even Lionel didn’t know how much longer they could hold on. Stella hadn’t used her brain this much in a long time and felt tired. She found a chance to step outside and rest.
She went to the lawn and saw an artificial lake ahead. The scenery was beautiful. She hadn’t felt this relaxed in a long time. It felt like life was finally normal again.
“Have you ever thought about treating your sister like this might come back to bite you?” Suddenly, Monroe appeared beside Stella.

Stella glanced at him and smiled lightly. “I think I said everything I needed to say to you already. What are you doing here? Trying to get back at Anna? Do you believe everything she says?”
Monroe didn’t know why he showed up there. He saw Stella standing alone, looking barely over 80 pounds. From behind, she looked like just

He thought maybe he’d lost his mind. He said, “You kept Anna from going home. You made your brother get hit by that truck, and he still hasn’t woken up.
“You even pushed your parents to turn against each other. Stella, what you did is going to catch up with you sooner or later.”
Stella asked calmly, almost like she was in control of everything, “Is that what she told you?”
It was a strange, indescribable feeling that slowly crept over Monroe, making him feel deep down as if he might have truly wronged her.
Monroe said, “I’ll look into it myself.”
Then Stella laughed. “Yeah, Mr. Johnson, you’re good at investigating. But don’t waste your time next time.”
Monroe said, “Anna asked me to beg you. Please leave her parents and brother alone. What happened back then wasn’t her fault.”
Stella didn’t say a word. Her cold and indifferent attitude irritated Monroe. It felt like she didn’t take him seriously at all.
Monroe was an illegitimate son, but he had taken over the Johnson family’s business. His status was solid. Not just Stella, even Jordan had to show him some respect.
