[A few hours earlier...]
ORGANIZING a rebellion to overthrow the government wasn’t easy, of course.
As soon as Moon Noa returned to Korea after his short but horrifying trip to Japan, he went straight to the Esper Association.
Of course, the trip there hadn’t been easy.
He almost died twenty times as soon as his private plane landed.
That wasn’t an exaggeration.
If he weren’t with the Top 5 Espers (minus Ki Gayoon), he would have died already.
And he didn’t have to wonder who wanted him dead.
"I thought the soap operas I’ve seen featuring chaebol family members who want to kill each other are over-the-top," Kwak Hakjae said, laughing after reinforcing the glass walls of his office with several thick layers of barriers. "I can’t believe that President Moon wants his own grandson killed."
After all, a Hunter-Sniper almost got Moon Noa as soon as he entered Kwak Hwakjae’s office. Fortunately, the Hunters Association President was a high-ranking Esper who specialized in defense.
To be fair, that was the reason why Ryu Sungbin and the others left his side to hunt down the Espers who were trying to kill him.
They know Kwak Hakjae can protect me.
"What can I say? I’m not the favorite grandson," Moon Noa said sarcastically, sitting on the receiving chair in front of Kwak Hakjae’s huge table. " And I’ve always been the black sheep of the family."
To be fair, only the bastards from his father’s side of the family were evil.
It was because his father’s family was deeply involved in politics.
I’m sorry to say this, but I can’t really trust politicians.
Anyway, the chaebol side of his mother’s family was pretty accepting of Moon Noa’s lifestyle.
To be fair, my relatives are just relieved that I’m not interested in our company.
"What did you do this time?" Kwak Hakjae asked, leaning against the chair. "I’m sure you wouldn’t have gotten me involved if this were just a simple family drama."
"Do you know where I was before I got here?"
"A little bird told me you were in Japan with our country’s strongest Hunters. Did you declare war against them?"
"We discovered a pile of corpses— and the victims appeared to be young Guides."
"As an S-Class Guide, it must have been devastating for you to see your fellow—"
"They were children forced to awaken as Guides."
"What?"
"We found traces of a horrifying experiment that had happened in the lab that we raided recently," Moon Noa said in a serious tone. Now that he had finally gotten the Esper Association’s full attention, he had to strike while the iron was hot. "Children were trafficked and forced to awaken as Guides by implanting Cores in their hearts."
"But only people who are compatible with Cores can awaken safely!" Kwak Hakjae said, slamming his hands on the table. "The System makes sure that only people who can handle it will awaken as either an Esper or a Guide. Humans cannot force their awakening!"
"And that’s exactly why those children are dead now."
The Esper Association President suddenly went pale.
Now he feels the gravity of the situation.
"We found that lab in a dormant dungeon in Japan," Moon Noa said, tapping his fingers on the table before dropping the bomb on Kwak Hakjae: "But the higher-ups that ran that lab before getting exposed were all Koreans."
You can mix a bit of a lie to make the truth sound more convincing.
"Lee Sarang and Jin Sooin found traces that led them to the Lab that is being run by Guide Song Heejin, Hunter Charles Kang, and Hunter Yosef Lee," Moon Noa said sternly. "And you know who funds the Lab, don’t you?"
Now it’s time for the main event.
