I didn’t bother sugarcoating it. “Of course I haven’t forgiven her. And I never will.”

Madam Salvatore’s face darkened. “A woman like you could never marry Aiden. You’re cruel to the core- you won’t even show mercy to a young girl!”

Seeing she was getting emotional too, I let out a cold laugh. “Fine. If you still think I’m the one who did this, then I’ll show you proof.”

Madam Salvatore froze. “What proof?”

I pointed to the top right corner of the room. “Every room in this hospital has surveillance. If you really believe I hit her, why don’t you go check the footage and see for yourself who threw the slap?”

She looked shaken by how confident I was.

She turned to Taylor. “Taylor…”

Taylor’s expression shifted. She quickly piped up, “Madam Salvatore, I… I did slap myself, but only because I wanted Raelynn to forgive me…”

As she spoke, she hung her head and looked all pitiful again, tears starting to fall one after another.

Madam Salvatore finally understood and looked a little guilty. “Oh, you silly girl–why didn’t you just explain yourself properly? I ended up blaming Raelynn for no reason.”

“But… Raelynn really doesn’t like me. I didn’t know how else to make her feel better. I just wanted her to forgive me a little,” Taylor bit her lip. “I didn’t think… even after all that, she still wouldn’t forgive me.”

Madam Salvatore looked at her and sighed in sympathy. “You can’t go hitting yourself like that, sweetheart. That must’ve hurt. You’re such a silly child.”

I could barely contain my disgust.

Taylor had her pity–party performance down to an art form. I was seriously considering recommending her to Hellenwood as an actress.

“Alright, if that’s all, you should go. Madam Salvatore, you need to rest. Don’t tire yourself out walking around.”

I couldn’t stand another second of it and basically kicked them out.

Madam Salvatore gave me a stiff smile, mumbled a couple of reminders, and left with Taylor.

I figured that would be the end of the interruptions and closed my eyes to finally get some sleep. But not long after, there was another knock at the door.

“Come in.”

Ruby stepped in timidly,

“I’m so sorry. It’s all my fault. If I hadn’t insisted on going to work, you never would’ve ended up in that situation.” Her eyes were filled with guilt and worry as she looked at me.

“It’s not your fault. I offered to help, and I got careless. Don’t blame yourself.”

I knew I hadn’t helped the wrong person, so I smiled and reassured her.

“Oh, right.” Ruby pulled out the silver ring and placed it in my hand. “I don’t want to work at the bar anymore. Can you help me?”

I nodded with a smile. “Of course.”

I pulled out a gold card I had already prepared and handed it to her. “There’s about two million on this card. The password is the first six digits of my phone number. If it’s not enough, you can come back for more. You have my contact info, right?”

“Thank you! I’ll pay you back someday.” Ruby clutched the card tightly, tears slipping down her face.

“No need. I’m not hurting for money. Just stay in school and steer clear of places like that bar.”

“I understand.” She lowered her head, voice soft. “But my mom still doesn’t have a matching bone marrow. I don’t know what else to do.”

“Don’t worry. Leave that to me.”

I immediately called Jackson and asked him to find a matching donor for her mother.

Jackson was fast. Within thirty minutes, he found a match–and it was nearby.

“Alright. In about half an hour, your mom can go in for surgery.”

Ruby’s face lit up in shock and joy. “Really? My mom can have surgery this soon?!”

“Yep. I’ll get the best surgeon to operate on her. I’ll make sure she’s safe.”

Ruby dropped to her knees. “Thank you. I don’t know how I can ever repay you. If you ever need anything from me–just say the word. I’ll do anything. I swear it.”

I chuckled and ruffled her hair. “Alright, alright. Quit overthinking it. Go take care of your mom.”

She nodded, wiping her tears as she left.

That’s just how I am. If I give my word, I’ll always follow through.

Then I called Andrix to see if he could perform the surgery,

Andrix was young, but easily the most skilled and authoritative doctor in the hospital. His medical knowledge surpassed that of many veteran physicians.
