Baylon strolled in with a smug grin, only to bump into a bewildered face the moment he turned his head. He froze, pointing at Freya. “Why the hell is there a woman in here?”

“Oh wait, you’re that Stone woman!” Baylon’s eyes suddenly widened. “What are you doing here?”

Freya raised an eyebrow. “Why wouldn’t I be here?”

“Louis, it’s one thing not to divorce her, but you’re still living together?” Baylon’s disbelief was practically screaming from his

voice.

Freya looked even more confused. “If we’re not living here, where are we supposed to go–sleep on the street?

Waylon stepped forward and gave Baylon a solid slap on the back, making him stumble a bit. “Do you ever shut up? Ms. Freya and Louis are still married–what’s so weird about them living together?”

Louis shut the door and turned around. “Come in and have a seat.”

Baylon opened his mouth, instincts telling him something was off. He swallowed his words, but he still couldn’t force a smile at Freya. He pretended not to see her and circled over to sit on the couch. Waylon nodded at Freya and also went over to sit down.

I’ve got errands to run this morning, so I’ll be heading out. You guys talk.”

Louis glanced at her, his expression unreadable. He nodded. “I won’t be home for lunch.”

“Home? Louis, did you just say this place is ‘home?

He would’ve been better off keeping quiet. Now that he’d said it out loud, Louis paused briefly too, but he quickly returned to his usual calm. “I’ve been eating here a lot lately. She’s a good cook.”

“No, seriously, Louisyou’re actually planning to live with that woman? She’s got nothing going for her besides her looks. Don’t tell me you’re really into her because of that? There are beautiful women everywhere around us! If you were gonna fall for her looks, you would’ve done it ages ago. Sure, I admit she looked good without makeup just now, but come on!”

Baylon mumbled to himself, She’s not even as good as Quincy. At least Quincy’s got brains and a degree.

“First of all, Ms. Freya didn’t just look ‘good‘ without makeupshe looked stunning. Frankly, I haven’t seen another barefaced beauty in that category who looks better than her. Second, people change. Just because you didn’t know her well before you left the country, and haven’t seen her since you came back, doesn’t give you the right to judge. And lastly…”

Waylon scooted a bit farther away from Baylon and patted him on the back. “You think Louis is an idiot? If he’s tolerating Ms. Freya this much, there’s a reason. Don’t forget, as far as outsiders are concerned, Louts is flat broke right now. And yet this Ms. Freya is still here, hasn’t left. Isn’t that interesting?

When he was helping Louis look into things before, Waylon had gone through the information carefully. The conclusion he came to was bizarre, to say the least. His guess was that Louis wanted to keep her close to observe her. After all, a visible threat is easier to avoid. It’s the hidden ones that are dangerous.
