“Oh, by the way, there’s a banquet in a few days. We need to attend together, so start preparing early,” Louis said as he hung his coat on the wall and changed his shoes.

Freya tensed up immediately. “A banquet? I’ve never really been to one seriously before. Won’t I just be a burden to you?”

Well, it wasn’t just that she hadn’t attended one seriously–she had never attended one at all. Without even asking, she knew that any event Louis attended would be a high–end business gathering. Someone like her, completely inexperienced in such settings, might end up embarrassing herself.

The few banquets she had been to were mostly casual company annual parties, and half of those were writer conventions. As one of the top authors on her platform, she never had to worry about anything–event staff always took care of everything for her. Now, suddenly being thrown into such a high–stakes event, she wasn’t sure if she could handle it.

“It’s fine. At this point, no one can cause me trouble anymore. And even if they could, a little bit of hassle doesn’t matter,” Louis said carelessly, pouring himself a glass of water as if it were no big deal.

Thinking back, the original owner had only attended such events during the early days of her marriage. After that, she had never been invited again. It was obvious–Louis had deliberately kept her from going to avoid embarrassment.

With no other options, Freya decided to focus on the first step, figuring out what to wear. Based on past memories, she selected a few dresses from the ones she hadn’t managed to sell. But she had no confidence in her choices, and after struggling with indecision for hours, she had no choice but to seek Louis‘ opinion.

So, that evening, the moment Louis stepped through the door, he noticed something different. Normally, Freya would be curled up on the couch, busy writing, but today, she was staring at him the moment he walked in, her eyes shining with a strange intensity.
