Chapter 192 Louis Chooses Food Over Feelings

“Well, that’s Louis; he definitely treats you better than he treats me. If he doesn’t care about you, what am I supposed to do?”

“He’s your husband,” Kendrick pointed out.

Problem is, that husband thing is just a title, nothing more. “Then how about I send you some money and you order takeout?”

Kendrick glared at Freya, fuming. But Freya wasn’t afraid of him anymore; she gave him a helpless look in return. With no other option, Kendrick huffed and stormed out with his coat in hand.

“Fine, I’ll go find Louis, but I’m not coming back tomorrow!”

Still, Louis didn’t try to stop him. Once Kendrick was gone, he took the laptop from Freya’s hands.

“Let’s go. What do you want to eat?”

Wait, he’s just gonna leave his own brother hanging and take her out to eat instead? Isn’t that a little too much?

“He didn’t want to go because he’s worried Louis might chew him out,” Freya blurted without thinking. “He messed something up a while back.”

Louis offered an explanation before she even realized what she’d said.

Freya felt a bit awkward. “Oh, so that’s why he kept dragging his feet and making excuses, because he knew he was in for a scolding? I knew it. Normally he gets all fired up the second someone mentions you; what happened to all that energy?”

“Forget him. What do you want to eat?”

“I’m not really hungry; anything’s fine,” Freya said after thinking for a second. “If you don’t mind, let’s just eat at home. I’ll go buy some groceries. What do you want?”

He didn’t mind at all. They’d spent so many days either testing games or working late at the office; aside from breakfast, they hadn’t eaten at home much lately.

“I’ll eat whatever–you decide.”

It didn’t matter if he didn’t say what he liked anymore; Freya had a surprisingly accurate grasp of his preferences. No matter what she made, it was never a miss.

But tonight, Freya wasn’t focused on dinner. She smiled sweetly at Louis. “Can I keep dinner simple? I really want to make some dessert tonight–and that’s gonna take a lot of time. I won’t have the energy to put much effort into dinner.”

Louis had the urge to pinch her cheek, but he restrained himself. “Sure. But why not just buy dessert?”

Freya bit her lip. “I don’t know… I just really want to make it myself.”

Louis couldn’t help but think. We probably could’ve just bought dessert for two meals with the money we’re spending here. And if you factor in the effort it’ll takeis it really worth it?

He’d never made dessert himself and didn’t really understand the difference between homemade and store–bought. If he had to guess, homemade probably didn’t taste as good.

“Aren’t you tired?”

“Not really. This is just normal life. If I’m tired, then what about you? You’ve been handling things all day and had meetings- aren’t you even more tired?”

As she spoke, she gently pushed him out of the kitchen. “Go do your thing. I’ll be quick. I’ll throw some rice porridge on the stove, stir–fry a couple of dishes, and that’s it.”

Louis had no choice but to leave her to it.

After going through all the groceries, Freya settled on stir–fried pork and some eggs. She decided to reheat the steamed buns from before–just enough for a satisfying meal.

Dinner was ready soon enough. Freya called Louis out to eat, and sure enough, everything on the table was exactly what he usually liked.

“You’re making your dessert right after this?” he asked.

“Mhm. I’m not planning to write anything tonight anyway, so I thought I’d just go ahead and make some. If we don’t finish it, I’ll pop the rest in the fridge. We can just take it out whenever we’re craving something sweet.”

As Freya said this, she suddenly remembered something else. “Oh, and I’m planning to make some tacos and freeze them too. They keep for a long time, and if you ever get hungry while I’m out, you can just take them out and heat them up.”
