Freya watched as Baylon somehow forced his naturally hooded eyes into a wide double eyelid, staring at her as he said, “Louis, don’t tell me she’s the one who brought you to a place like this?”
“What are you doing here?” Louis didn’t answer his question and threw one right back at him instead.
Baylon’s expression immediately collapsed. He raised his hand and waved it, showing a bunch of bags filled with all kinds of
snacks.
“Ugh, my mom, who else? Had to have the snacks from this place. I told her to let Watson and the others pick them up- nope. Said it had to be me, her very own son, or I’d be labeled unfilial. Heaven help me, ever since I was a kid, if she told me to head east, I’d never dare go west. If she told me to chase a dog, I wouldn’t even think of going after a chicken. And even with all that, she still says I have no respect for her. Who am I supposed to complain to?”
“Wait, hang on. Louis, you still haven’t said what you’re doing here. Don’t tell me you came all this way just to eat street food?” Baylon looked at Freya again, now like he was staring at a ghost. To be able to drag Louis–someone who seemed easygoing but was actually absurdly picky–out to eat street snacks, this Ms. Stone must’ve put some kind of spell on him.
“Mind
your own business. Just focus on your work. I heard things have been pretty busy for you at Quez Corp lately.”
“I know, I know. Don’t worry, Louis. I’ve got a good handle on things. I won’t back them into a corner. But what about you? I heard your new project-”
“Sounds good. Take care, Ms. Stone. You too.” Baylon even gave a small bow and nodded at Freya.
Freya nodded back a little awkwardly, then quickly followed behind Louis as they left.
Behind them, Baylon stared at their backs, his brows furrowed tightly, muttering to himself, “What the hell is Louis keeping Freya around for? He doesn’t even tell her the truth, but still treats her like she’s not a stranger. Is there something off about Freya?”
Then he shook his head. “No matter how important she is, it’s not enough for Louis to go this far. This is insane.”
He couldn’t figure it out, so he stopped trying. Shoving the thought aside, Baylon looked down at the bags in his hand, sighed in resignation, and continued toward the next shop.
