Chapter 92
“What’s happening to my daughter?”
When the team of doctors paged hepatologist, I lost it, the series of fruitless tests didn’t make any sense.
Until now, they had pinched Jane with countless needles to perform different procedures, and the result was the same: Negative!
Jane tested negative for infection, sepsis, pulmonary embolism, and God knew what, but the doctors were unable to find the exact cause of her illness. Her deteriorating condition spiraled my thoughts to terrifying scenarios.
So, I didn’t keep cool and lashed out furiously.
“You told me that Jane will recover smoothly after surgery. But her fever isn’t coming down. She has rashes on her skin, and her digestive system is also a mess. What are you even doing?
Why isn’t my daughter healing?”
The hepatologist, Dr. Wilson, thoroughly studied Jane’s report while listening to my rant, he asked the nurse.
“When did these rashes start? Are these consistent with other symptoms?”
The dermatologist showed him the list of skin diseases which they overruled by tests and said,
“I have the option of skin biopsy now. It can be dangerous bacteria …”
Dr. Wilson shook his head and ordered,
“It isn’t a skin related problem. Call hematologist, Dr. Brown. If it’s what I am thinking, then we are definitely in
trouble.”
I couldn’t wrap my head around the fact that why my Jane’s sickness would put them into jeopardy, but this wasn’t my concern. I just wanted a doctor who was competent enough to treat my daughter.
Finally, Dr. Brown came to Jane’s room, he read the reports and swiftly ordered.
“X–ray abdomen and CT chest stat. Also run the liver function tests again. Where are the forms of the blood donors?”
The nurses took Jane to the radiology department and Dr. Brown started carnage, scolding the entire hospital staff.
“How can you allow a sick man to donate blood?
Mr. Felix has received blood transfusions in the previous three months, and you approved him as a donor. Don’t you know the protocols? We can lose our licenses!”
He didn’t hear any reason and bombarded me with queries.
“Miss Drielle, I apologize for invading your privacy, but a patient’s history is crucial for the right diagnosis.

So, please. If you have lied about anything, it’s time to speak the truth.”
Dr. Brown asked about Jane’s blood group, birth certificate, and paternity. I was shocked to notice the tinge of
accusation in his sharp tone.
“Miss Drielle, Mr. Felix is your ex–husband, and we have read all the news of your differences. But hiding the paternity of a child is a crime. And in your case, life–threatening for your daughter.
So, please be honest and answer my questions.
Who is Jane’s dad?”
His audacity to accuse me boiled my blood, my daughter was suffering due to their incompetency, and he dared to blame me?
Bright held my hand and stepped forward, replying to him firmly.
“Dr. Brown, it’s a last chance for you to reconsider your approach and apologize to Drielle.
Otherwise, it won’t take me long to drag you to court for a malpractice suit.”
The shadows of fear darkened Dr. Brown’s face as Bright warned him in his own way.
“As you are more interested in our private matters. Here are the reports!
Jane is my biological daughter, conceived through the IVF procedure.
She has no relationship with Drielle’s ex–husband.”
Our loud arguments garnered unnecessary attention; Felix was also informed by his spies. He arrived at the scene to witness the live show as Dr. Brown stuttered in response.
“It wasn’t my intention to insult Miss Drielle, Sir. I am just worried about Jane.
After ruling out surgery related complications, Dr. Cameron paged me for a rare disease. And it only happens when one of the donors is the first relative to the patient.”
Meanwhile, the scans were delivered by a nurse, he hurriedly checked that tab and showed us the results.
“Can you see the abnormality in Jane’s liver? This confirms that she is suffering from TA–GVHD.
The other donors were girls, complete strangers. So, it can only happen if Mr. Felix is Jane’s father, brother, or son.
The latter two aren’t possible. So, …”
Chapter 93
Henry had taken full responsibility for my pregnancy. From choosing a donor to delivery, he paid full attention to every detail.
“The tests c–can be w–wrong, Drielle. L–Leave everything. Our priority is Jane’s health.”

You gave birth to my child, Drielle. What else do you need now to believe that we are meant to be.”
Felix pushed the button of his wheelchair and moved forward, spewing out more nonsense.
“Drielle, we are Jane’s parents. We shouldn’t stop the doctors from starting the treatment.
Take it as heaven’s sign to reveal Jane’s true paternity. She will be fine after
“Just shut up, Felix!”
A whirlwind of intense shock collided with the nuclear explosives of fear, destroying my world into tiny little pieces.
“You can’t ever be my daughter’s father. It’s a lie!”
I choked on my words, unable to breathe properly as my heart stopped beating, hurting my chest right through my back. Bright supported me in his strong embrace, saving me from a free fall, I was left with no strength after this soul crushing revelation.
Henry shouted at Felix on my behalf, “Drielle is right. I can guarantee that you aren’t Jane’s dad. The paternity file can’t lie.
These doctors must have inaccurate identification of Jane’s condition.”
Felix was hushed by our sudden outburst, but he didn’t hold back when Bright asked him to leave.
“As you can see, it’s our family matter, Felix. So, stop being a nuisance and leave.
Don’t make me regret that I have worked hard to save your life.”
Felix’s expressions turned cold as he glared at Bright and spoke viciously.
“Oh, you will really regret it when I take back my family from you, Bright.
I am leaving now. But I will come back with DNA test reports as proof of Jane’s paternity.
Just wait and watch!”
My daughter was on deathbed and Felix was fighting for paternity, I simply wished to kill him for his ruthlessness. He threatened me with the court orders for a DNA test, so I had to comply with his demand for a sample.
A part of me still believed that Bright was my Jane’s actual dad. All proof was in his defense, except this complication. I sincerely prayed in my heart for a negative DNA test.
The days passed and Jane started getting better due to treatment, tearing my soul apart slowly. The look of ‘I was right‘ in Dr. Brown’s eyes challenged my sanity every day and night. He didn’t say anything about it, but I could hear it loud and clear from his double meaning statements that Jane wasn’t Bright’s daughter.
Dreading the results, I barely survived that painful wait, the sunrise of the Monday morning came up with a set of devastating revelations.
It was 08:00 am when the door of Jane’s room opened, and I saw Felix with a mile–wide smile. He waved the envelope in his hand and announced proudly.
“Look, Drielle!
The DNA test’s report is positive. I am Jane’s biological father!”
