Chapter30
At Northpine Hospital.
McKayla paced around anxiously.
Stephanie was Rh negative. Before, Stephanie said she wanted to get an abortion, so she suggested Stephanie get some blood ready first, just
in case.
It hadn’t been long since then, and the stock hadn’t been adjusted yet.
In case I needed a blood transfusion…
McKayla and Stephanie met when they were kids.
When they were little, they got along really well.
She was born into a family of doctors, and she picked up a lot of medical knowledge when she was very young.
She just knew a lot of things from books or from her parents, but didn’t really understand them deeply.
Not until later.
One time she and Stephanie sneaked out to have fun.
She liked excitement since she was a kid. Back then. she just secretly rode her brother’s big motorcycle and took Stephane out for a spin.
Big motorcycle, and he was giving Stephanie, this gorgeous girl, a ride. He thought he looked super cool.
She drove faster and faster.

Then she fell.
She was okay when she fell, just scraped her skin a bit, but Stephanie got thrown really far, hit a rock, and got a big cut on her leg.
That opening was really big.
There was blood all over the floor.
She got so scared that she immediately called an ambulance and took Stephanie to the ER.
But the wound was too big, and plus she took Stephanie for a drive in the countryside, so even if an ambulance came, it would still take some time.
By the time she got to the hospital, she had already lost too much blood.
That was the first time she knew what Rh negative blood meant, which Stephanie had told her about before.
Rh negative blood, that small hospital didn’t have any in stock.
Watching Stephanie go into shock from losing too much blood.
She cried and screamed, calling her dad, asking him to save Stephanie.
Luckily, they saved Stephanie in the end, and that was something McKayla remembered for the rest of her life.
Even though she Until now, there was still a scar on Stephanie’s le had done a few cosmetic treatments, the wound was too deep, so the scar couldn’t be completely removed.
Stephanie was afraid she’d feel guilty, so she took her to the tattoo shop and got matching sister tattoos with her, each of them getting one

over their scars.
“Steph…”
Thinking about it, McKayla called all the contacts she knew again.
“Yeah, it was me, McKayla…”
“Yes, I had a pregnant car accident patient here who might need it, it’s really urgent!”
“Hello, is this the mutual aid group…”
“Okay, it’s best if more people come. Even though we didn’t need it yet, it was better to be prepared!”
“Okay, thank you…”
Made several phone calls and made sure everyone was already taking action, so McKayla finally felt a bit relieved.
She still didn’t know what was going on with Stephanie, and that made McKayla really anxious.
To ease the anxiety, McKayla and the policewoman found out what had happened.
After finding out how the whole thing went down, McKayla broke out in a cold sweat.
“You mean, someone wanted to murder Steph!”
But who was it?
McKayla’s mind was racing.
It could have been an old grudge from the Shelton family.

It was possible that because Stephanie was Maxwell’s wife, she got attacked too because of the Humphrey Group.
Even recently, the Roxanne death countdown kept spreading online, and it was possible that some extremists might come after Stephanie. She had seen this kind of thing before.
There were also work, daily conflicts, and so on, too many possibilities.
The scope was too broad.

In the emergency room.
Stephanie was confused.
I could only vaguely sense what was going on around me.
She could feel like someone was checking her.
There were all kinds of machine noises around.
Metallic, instrumental, making all kinds of sounds.
Someone was still talking.
On and off, she couldn’t hear clearly.
I could only vaguely hear words like “bleeding,” “pregnant woman,‘ and so on.
The child…
Her child.
Stephanie remembered.

Using all her strength, Stephanie barely managed to say, “Doctor… save my child.”
She regretted it.
Before she fainted at the police station, that panic and sadness almost crushed her.
She once wanted a kid because she wanted to have something with Maxwell that was theirs, a proof of their love.
Later she gave up on Maxwell, so she gave up on it too.
But these days, she felt the baby was there and growing inside her.
Gradually, she would also get a bit hesitant.
It wasn’t until this time, when she was really about to lose it, that she realized…
Turns out she was so reluctant and so sad.
