Maxwell was about to call Stephanie, and just then, his phone started. vibrating

It was Roxanne.

After thinking for a bit. Maxwell touched the power button.

“Max.” Roxanne’s voice came through the phone, “Um… did you see the stuff online today?”

Her voice sounded a bit tentative and cautious, and it made people feel sorry for her.

“Are you talking about Stephanie?” Maxwell spoke up directly.

“Mm.” Roxanne replied. She “hesitated” and said, “Max, is that your child with her?”

Maxwell thought about it. In these seven years, Stephanie had always been with him and they hadn’t been apart for long. If she had a baby, he should have known.

So he shook his head. “Not sure, probably not.”

“Max, you didn’t have to be afraid of hurting me.” Roxanne’s voice came, still a little stuffy. “You two were together for so long, having a kid was normal. I… I was fine, and also…”

“But if this made her unhappy, Max, you should go back and stay with her.”

“I’m fine.”

Roxanne spoke, her voice cracking with a choked–up feeling.

Sometimes, saying no was easier to get than saying stay.

When Jacquelyn discharged her, she told Stephanie to take her meds on time, come back for checkups, and also comforted her, saying things like you can go out for a walk and stuff

Stephanie didn’t say much, just went back to her new place.

Her miscarriage and injury from the fall had already gotten a bit better. and Northpine Hospital was already handling her discharge paperwork. McKayla was helping with it, so she didn’t need to worry about these things.
