Isadora heard a sound and slowly opened her eyes.
She lifted her head, her amber eyes blinking in confusion at the man suddenly standing in the doorway.
Their gazes collided in the golden hush of evening; for a moment, neither said a word.
Outside, dusk had painted the sky in soft amber, its light spilling through the balcony and bathing the room in a warm, gilded glow.
Victor strode forward, stopping by the couch. He knelt on one knee and studied her, his eyes scanning her face. Then, without another word, he reached out and pulled her tightly into his arms.
God only knew how frantic he’d been when she vanished.
And the flood of emotion that crashed over him the moment he saw her message—he could barely describe it.
As Victor wrapped her in his embrace, Isadora instinctively pressed her hand against his chest, keeping a small but definite distance between them.
He felt her hesitation and narrowed his dark eyes, searching her face. “What’s wrong?” he asked quietly.
Isadora didn’t answer right away.
She knew that photo had been sent with malicious intent—someone had deliberately used it to bait her.
She couldn’t let herself fall for it, couldn’t risk Victor being threatened because of her.
That’s why she’d texted him: Don’t worry, I’m at Brocade Heights. Good luck at today’s board meeting. Come find me when it’s over.
But no matter how rational she tried to be, a heaviness lingered in her chest.
Just the thought of Victor—of Nannie getting that close to him, her greedy longing—made Isadora’s skin crawl. The idea of returning to the Fitzgerald estate felt unbearable.
So she’d come here, to Brocade Heights.
She never knew she could be so possessive.
Her unease twisted through her body until her stomach lurched. Isadora clapped her hand over her mouth and gagged softly.
Victor grabbed a few tissues from the table, reaching out to dab her lips. Isadora took them from his hand and wiped her mouth herself.
Victor’s gaze was steady, almost piercing, as if he were trying to see straight through to her heart.

The readers' comments on the novel: Never Again Yours (Isadora and Magnus)
It takes too long to get to the point. Too much unnecessary in between in all of these books. Too many extra characters, the authors lose the plot after a while....
