My Substitute CEO Bride (Nash Calicraft) novel Chapter 2701

Wrendell and Reese chose to stay at an inn for the night. Wrendell was still puzzled.

“Are we not leaving?” he asked.

“Leaving?” Reese sighed. “Wrendell, you’re still too naive. Did you not notice the three to five pairs of eyes monitoring us while we were walking down the street?"

Wrendell shook his head. “I didn’t see anything. If it were ordinary surveillance, I would've definitely sensed it.”

Reese pointed out, “Exactly. Ordinary surveillance is easy to detect. But these people—or rather, the entire city—are not as simple as they appear.”

“What do you mean?” Wrendell asked.

Reese pulled out a map. “This city has managed to climb to where it is now in just ten years, which points to something remarkable. However, the map doesn't show any valuable resources here. It being just barren mountains, there’s no way there are any tourist attractions here either."

"So, how did things change so drastically in just a decade?” Wrendell asked, confused.

Reese then shared a thought. “I need to verify a hypothesis. Wrendell, I’ll need you to help me with some things over the next couple of days while I look into other leads.

“We can only lay low for now no matter how great our abilities may be. There are too many eyes around us and too many innocent bystanders. If we act rashly, we could end up costing more lives. So, we must proceed with caution.”

Reese instructed Wrendell before pulling out the note from his pocket. He then took out his phone and dialed a number.

“Alright. Tell us about your situation,” Tybalt prompted.

“Sure, Mr. Lumley. I was the least favored child, but one day, my family suddenly started treating me exceptionally well, almost as if they were trying to win me over. At first, I thought they had finally recognized my worth, but two days later, I found out the truth.

“I was to be married off. At first, I found it strange that someone would want a guy like me, but I thought it was better than nothing. My family sent me off in style, and I ended up in Palvere. The night before last, I was so excited about getting married in two days that I couldn’t sleep," Mather explained.

At this point, Tybalt interrupted him. “Hey, get to the point. Your sentimental journey isn’t important.”

“Yes, you’re right. I’ll cut to the chase,” Mather quickly agreed.
