At that moment, the person at the back quickly shut the door and switched on the lights. Nash and Clinton appeared before Huntley.
Of course, Huntley did not recognize them. He immediately started shouting, "You despicable cowards! If you've got any guts, untie me! I swear, I'll beat you both senseless!"
Clinton walked over to Huntley, smirking. "And what if I don't? What will you do?"
"You bastard!" Huntley growled.
"Enough," Nash said as he approached. "We knew you'd be restless when you woke up, so we tied you up for now. Don't worry, we don't mean any harm."
"No harm? You don't exactly look like good guys to me." Huntley glared at Nash. "Especially you. The stench of blood around you is thick. You've killed a lot of people, haven't you?"
"Yes," Nash replied calmly. "I've killed many, but only those who truly deserved it."
Huntley burst out laughing. "In that case, we're more alike than I thought. I knew itβyou're a cold-blooded killer."
Nash remained unfazed. "Shall we talk?"
"About what?"
"Your thoughts about this competition," Nash said.
Huntley snorted. "So, you're just fishing for intel, huh?"
"Exactly." Nash began loosening Huntley's restraints. "We need to know Maxim's true intentions, the matter of becoming a god, and what you think about all this."
"Well, I'm sorry, but you're asking the wrong person," Huntley replied. "Frankly, I'm just someone seeking revenge. I couldn't care less about their plans."
"Is that so?" Nash asked. "Then, what are your thoughts on becoming a god?"
"Becoming a god? It's pointless. Those so-called gods are nothing but liars."
"It's simple," Huntley explained. "The Celestial Tree's true essence is destruction itself. All of its power comes from death. Tell me, what is the inevitable step in becoming a god?"
Nash answered immediately, "The death of the body."
"Exactly," Huntley said. "And in this region, there are countless immortal spirits. What do you think happens if you factor them in?"
"That'sβ¦" Nash hesitated.
Huntley continued, "I found a letter among my father's belongings, written in his own blood. From his handwriting, it was clear he was in deep agony, fighting against some unknown force.
"In the letter, he revealed the truth about the Celestial Tree."
Huntley paused, then added, "The fruit of the Celestial Tree is a lie. Once you consume it, your identity as a person is erased, leaving only a body controlled by the Celestial Tree's consciousness.
"And this power doesn't just affect the individualβit lingers for about three to four generations, around a hundred years. After that, the Celestial Tree seeks more death to fuel itself, producing new fruit and creating new guardians."
