My Substitute CEO Bride (Nash Calicraft) novel Chapter 2366

Everything seemingly settled down. Jules led the group back to their workplace, but it was clear that many questions still lingered in everyone's minds.

Astin was the first to speak up. “Zenon, you...”

Zenon interrupted, “You can call me Hunter. I specialize in hunting down demons like that. About the cleaning lady, I suspect the demon inside her awakened because of her son’s death.

It eventually corrupted her, leading her to seek revenge.”

Astin nodded. It made sense to him as he, too, harbored something dark within himself. If Zenon knew Astin’s true nature, he might have already attempted to cut him down as well.

Still shaken from the intense battle, Warick struggled to process the surreal events that happened. Jules, however, was as composed and professional as he usually was. He took out a notebook.

“Astin, I’ve already submitted a request regarding your situation. Now, can I ask you a few more questions to complete the report for this case?"

Astin nodded. “Go ahead, Captain."

“First, how did you realize that they used conductive materials? And what about the tools you were carrying?”

Astin began to explain, “The tools? I found them at Winsten's house. Parker, that guy, was way too confident. That’s what gave me a breakthrough. I knew someone like him, with such a high opinion of himself, wouldn’t tolerate any mistakes or ridicule.

"I also found similar mechanisms at Winsten's house, which led me to uncover the true cause of his death. Of course, I was lucky. Otherwise, I might not be here. And because I was so lucky, I knew that guy would definitely come after me again, which was why I made those bold statements to the media. But really, it was just a little cleverness, nothing worth bragging."

Jules chuckled. “Your ‘cleverness’ would probably take Warick two years to learn.”

“Captain, come on…” Warick protested.

“Haha, just kidding,” Jules replied with a laugh.

Later that evening, the group said their goodbyes after dinner. Charlotte and Astin walked together. Suddenly, Astin said, “By the way, you saved me before this, and I still haven’t properly thanked you.”

Charlotte shook her head. “No need, it’s nothing." She looked up at the sky, which was overcast with no stars in sight. “Looks like it’s going to rain..."

Before she could finish her sentence, raindrops started wetting the ground. They did not have umbrellas with them, so they quickly picked up their pace.

Charlotte noticed a bus stop ahead with a shelter and some benches. “Over here.”

They hurried over to the bench and sat down.

Astin sighed. “What bad luck.”

Charlotte sighed too.
