Jules nodded. "Of course." He then handed Astin the relevant personnel files.
Astin took the files and asked, "Did you find anything suspicious?"
Jules shook his head. "What we need to know most right now is how the victim was killed. I know you can see things we can't, am I right?"
"You’re referring to those threads?" Astin asked.
Jules nodded. "They might be the key to solving the case."
Astin flipped through the files before singling out one. "Janice Merlot, the cleaning lady. Is there anything suspicious about her?"
Jules shook his head. "Although she was the first to discover the body, we’ve verified that she wasn’t on duty last night. She came to work this morning and, apart from entering the room, was mostly in the hallway. We can see her in the surveillance footage."
Astin continued to review the files before setting them aside. "Alright, I don’t have any more questions. Get ready." He then pointed at Warick, "You, change into plain clothes and prepare to head out."
...
Astin walked through the dimly lit room, his mind racing with thoughts. "The hotel room has been thoroughly investigated, and no suspicious elements were found. Same with the victim's home... Where did the trail go cold?"
He entered the victim's apartment, opened the door, and entered his room. "The victim was just an honest worker, so revenge or personal vendettas seem unlikely. There haven't been similar cases recently in Grenford either."
Astin searched the room methodically. He preferred to keep the lights off as he was accustomed to dim environments. Despite his thorough search, he found nothing particularly out of place. Just as he was about to leave, something caught his eye.
"You say you left for your morning exercise around 6:00 pm? And then?"
Warick was speaking with an elderly man who seemed a particularly energetic sort. The man thought for a moment and continued, "I didn't see anything particularly unusual. I did see that woman across from me. She looked like she had just come back from buying breakfast. Since we checked in together, I recognized her."
The woman he referred to was Charlotte, but this did not seem to provide any useful information.
"Okay, I've noted that. What about when you returned?"
"When I came back... I didn't see anyone unusual... Let me think..."
