As the crowd shuffled forward, Veronica’s eyes quickly found Tad sitting in the front row, and her heart skipped a beat. 

The empty seat the flight attendants are eyeing so eagerly–it’s just waiting for me to claim it! 

Emyr didn’t say a word, his expression unreadable. Veronica, on the other hand, was completely unbothered by the tension in the air. She cheerfully greeted Kane and the others. “Mr. Kane, Mr. Shawn, Mr. Sinnova, what a pleasant surprise! I was just thinking how scary it would be to fly alone.” 

With that, Veronica ignored the disapproving stares from the flight attendants had calmly took charge, saying, “I’m assigned to seat 38B, but I’ll be taking this one instead.” 

The flight attendant, who had been waiting to pounce once they took off, now found herself flustered and blushing under Veronica’s haughty gaze. She could only nod sheepishly in acknowledgment. 

Emyr’s brow furrowed, his irritation clear. 

Before he could voice his displeasure, however, Shawn, sitting across from him, stood up first. 

The notorious playboy, with his usual flair, made his way over to the flustered flight attendant. Flashing his trademark smile, the one that could make anyone lose their focus, he gave her a playful glance. She immediately melted under the attention. 

“No need to rush the seat change,” Shawn said smoothly, his voice like velvet. 

After flirting with the attendant, Shawn casually turned toward Veronica. 

His smile, though still pleasant, now carried an edge, a hint of something darker beneath the surface. 

On the outside, Shawn appeared laid–back and easygoing, but there was more to him than meets the eye. He wasn’t the type of person to let things slide easily. 

He hadn’t forgotten how Veronica had used him to gather information about Emyr’s plans. She had caught his attention, and now, he was making sure she knew it. 

Shawn gave a small, knowing look at Emyr, noting his dissatisfaction with Veronica’s behavior. That gave him the confidence to continue. 

Veronica, still annoyed by Shawn’s lack of respect, wasn’t prepared for him to turn his focus on her. She quickly turned her face away, her expression stiff, clearly uncomfortable. 

The memory of the last time Shawn had deliberately lost a game, causing her to suffer for hours afterward, still haunted her. She shuddered involuntarily. 

Shawn’s smirk widened, and in a low, mocking voice, he said, “Ms. James, you’re practically family with Keon, right? You know that people like us don’t fly commercial.” 

Veronica was uncertain about his intentions, so he cautiously tested the waters. After a brief pause, she nodded. “I know, which is why I’m so surprised to see all of you here.” 

Che quickly shifted her gaze back to Emvr. a look of admiration in her eves. “Especially Mr. Emvr.

The flight attendant, still a bit stunned, hesitated. “Well, there are actually two seats left in the first class…” 

Veronica’s attempt to flaunt her position faltered. She shot a heated glare at the attendant, her face flushed with embarrassment. 

In truth, this flight to Sudbay had been organized as a vacation by Leah’s family, and Veronica had simply tagged along for fun. 

The Nelsons had chartered a private jet, but Veronica’s parents had scolded her, saying it was ridiculous to 

waste money on such ant 

flight. Veronica had to buy a regular ticket for the cheaper night flight 

with her own money. 

She puffed up her chest, trying to appear unaffected. “Oh, really? I didn’t notice when I bought my ticket, but now that I’ve switched to first class already, it doesn’t matter.” 

Shawn teased, reminding her, “You haven’t switched yet, Ms. James. You’re a bit too eager.” 

Veronica’s face immediately soured. 

What is his problem? Is he really holding a grudge just because I used him once? Is it really that big of a deal? 

If someone like him were to take over the Carters‘ empire one day, I seriously doubt how long that company would last. 

Once Emyr and I are together, I will make sure he is kept far away for someone so petty. 

Shawn raised an eyebrow, crossed his arms, and continued, “People like us, we have our own private jets, special routes, and dedicated staff. Do you know why we’re choosing to squeeze in with you all and fly in the evening?” 

Veronica, still unaware, confidently answered, “Sudbay’s airspace doesn’t allow private planes after midnight. Since Mr. Emyr who has a busy schedule, is only free now, that’s why he can only fly commercial.” 

Shawn scoffed, his expression dripping with disdain. 

“Emyr wouldn’t bother changing his schedule for work. The real reason is someone’s been working straight through the winter break and only started their vacation this afternoon. Emyr made sure to wait for his girlfriend, so he had to downgrade to a commercial flight and travel with her in the evening.” 

Shawn stretched out each word, savoring the moment as Veronica’s shock turned into jealousy. Inside, he was grinning with satisfaction. 

The flight attendant finally understood. “So, the empty seat next to this guest is for his girlfriend? Apologies, but we keep first–class passenger details private, so we weren’t aware how many people would be seated there…
