My Pretty Sweetheart (Arianna) novel Chapter 898

"You're right!" Rainie replied, excited. "If we get arrested, we'll ask them to send us back. We won't need to look for help elsewhere."

That didn't sound like a bad idea to us. So, we basked in that satisfaction for the moment.

We then began to discuss how we could get a hold of the authorities.

We were in a rural area, near the forest, so we didn't know if there was a police station nearby.

Dahlia didn't want to have anything to do with our plan because of her beliefs, so she excluded herself from our discussion.

Tina and Naomi were eager, however. "We'll both know what to do!"

When evening came, Tina and Naomi broke into a house, taking their things.

When the two came back with fruits, they thought that the villagers would call for the police.

It was a presumptuous thought. They thought us desperate outsiders that needed the supplies. Though they were angry, they sympathized.

Thus, no authorities were alerted, leaving Tina and Naomi speechless at the outcome. In the end, they gave everything back.

Upon their return however, the villagers tried to make us keep the stolen items. In the few days to come, we tried many ways to offend the people in the village in hopes that they would call the police.

In the end, not only did they not call the police, they even brought us their own food.

Living in the mountains, most people relied on nature to make a living. They knew they'd farm and labor on their whole lives. They knew nothing about the world beyond the mountains.

Tina clasped her forehead. She also knew that it was stupid to steal, but it was human nature to do absurd things when one was anxious.

Pollard said that he would help us find a phone the next morning.

He couldn't do it right away as it was a custom here to not visit others' homes at night. It was a taboo that all villagers adhered by.

It didn't make much sense to us, but we still respected their way of life. It was important for us to do that for everyone here.

At the thought of returning home soon, the girls got excited, and spent the night playing with little Yannie.

Tina, having become our makeshift translator at this point, awkwardly helped us promise Yannie that once we got home, we would return someday to see her, with dolls and delicious food.
