That night.
I was a little sleepy, so I went to bed early. A ringing phone woke me up in a daze, and when I opened my eyes, Hendrix had already answered the phone.
He seemed to have just come from the study room, still holding a file in his arm.
When he saw that I had woken up, he handed me the phone and said in a low voice, "It's Yana!"
I was dumbstruck. I looked at the time; it was midnight.
I grabbed hold of the phone and before I could speak, a strained voice sounded from the other end, "Arianna, my stomach hurts. Can you come over? I think I'm about to give birth."
Suddenly, all senses came rushing back to me as I immediately stood up from bed. I got up so quickly I almost slipped.
Hendrix's fast reflexes came in handy as he quickly held and steadied me. "Be careful!"
I nodded, calmed down and spoke to the person on the other end of the phone, "Where are you now? Send me your address and I'll be right there."
"Alright!"
After ending the call, Hendrix looked at me and frowned, "What's wrong?"
"Yana is about to give birth. There is no one with her. I have to go to her," I said as I went to the closet to look for clothes to put on.
When I came out, I saw Hendrix waiting for me at the door with his car keys.
I was stunned for a moment. But I didn't say much and went straight to the car as I told him the address.
I tried calling Aaron, but all calls went unanswered.
Ants of anxiety filled my belly as I asked, "Why is Aaron not answering"
Hendrix calmly assured me, "Don't worry."
I knew that I should stay calm, but I couldn't help but feel my hands trembling. The fetus in Yana's womb was only seven or eight months old, how could she be giving birth now? Something must have happened.
How could Aaron not be there at this time?
After sitting with my thoughts for a while, I called Charles. When the call connected, it was very quiet on the other end. The old man's voice was deep when he spoke, "Arianna, what's wrong?"
Hendrix's hands and his entire body were covered in blood.
When he saw that I had calmed down, he looked down at his own embarrassed appearance and comforted me, "It's okay. I'll just go back and take a bath later."
I was so scared that I felt my knees turn to jelly below me. I sat slumped on the bench in the corridor. After resting for a bit, I realized that I was hugging onto Hendrix rather tightly.
I had been through this and I knew how terrifying it was, so I completely lost it.
Hendrix hugged and comforted me, "Don't worry, everything will be fine."
I took out my cell phone and tried for Aaron again. The phone rang for a long time before someone finally answered.
But it was a woman who spoke. "Hello, Mr. Aaron is taking a shower. Please call him later."
Eunice?
This was a voice I was very familiar with.
