My Pretty Sweetheart (Arianna) novel Chapter 673

"I'm hanging up!" Hendrix said solemnly.

I stood behind him and stared at his broad back. My heart hurt. I thought that after four years, I had finally come to terms with everything, and that I was okay.

Apparently, the pain had only been deeply concealed.

Noticing that there was someone behind him, he turned around. His handsome face was filled with sorrow and pain.

Instantly, he switched back into his usual gentle demeanor. He looked at me and smiled. "You're awake! Are you hungry?"

I shook my head. I slowly walked up to him and leaned myself into his embrace, in search of a sense of security. "I'm fine, Hendrix."

I was really fine; I just don't have full control over my emotions at times.

He hugged me and patted me on the back, as if coaxing a child. "I know. Just get some rest, everything will be okay."

The dispute between Hendrix and Nerissa was something that I hadn't expected.

Hendrix, who hadn't been to the office for several days, handed everything over to Austin.

I wasn't in the hall when Nerissa arrived.

The two of them were just chatting initially, but for some reason, their conversation turned into an argument.

At first, I didn't want to get involved. However, upon hearing how loud they were becoming, I couldn't help but exit the bedroom to take a look.

"You're hopeless!" Nerissa shouted in rage. "How could you keep someone like her by your side? Have you ever considered what it'll be like when you have kids? She's in such bad shape that she can't even control her own emotions. If she suddenly acts up, have you thought of what she would do to your own child? One slip-up and two lives could be lost!"

Hendrix did not mind. "We won't have any more children. Anne is registered under my name; she's justifiably my daughter."

"But she's not your biological child!" "What's the difference?" Hendrix pursed his lips. "I can't have children anymore, having Anne is enough."

Nerissa looked at him incredulously. "Hendrix, are you out of your mind? You're the only child of the Roberts family, and you have a responsibility to fulfil! How could you possibly face your grandfather in heaven like this?"

Hendrix didn't say anything because when he got up, he had caught sight of me standing at the staircase.

His initially grim face gradually brightened. Our eyes met and his lips curled upward with a sense of warmth. He gestured to me and said gently, "Come down!"
