My Pretty Sweetheart (Arianna) novel Chapter 664

It was not until I was out of breath that I looked at him wide- eyed. He seemed to enjoy my expression very much. As he loosened his hug, he asked, "Do you intend for us to stay separated for the rest of our lives?"

"No I don't, Hendrix."

It had been four years. Such a period was tantamount to torture for most people. For me, it was about letting go.

For four years, I healed myself and recovered from the depths of despair. The only thing which could not be healed was that of my physical shortcomings.

When I woke up the next day, Hendrix was still lying next to me with his eyes closed. He'd usually have left by this time.

He was still sleeping soundly. As I turned to look at his eyebrows, it suddenly occurred to me that time had passed so quickly.

Seven years were gone in the blink of an eye. As I thought about it, I seemed to have surmounted every hardship that came my way. I should be able to see the light at the end of the tunnel by now.

Nonetheless, I was still not at peace.

I was so lost in my thoughts that I did not realize that Hendrix had woken up. His deep, hoarse voice steered my wandering mind back to the present moment.

As our eyes met, he asked with a smile on his dashing face, "Are you hungry?"

I shook my head and replied, "Nope!"

He reached out and pulled me close into an embrace. In a soft voice, he said, "You should eat more. You've lost some weight."

I smiled and replied, "I've obviously put on weight." I felt so much calmer in his embrace.

After returning from her stay with the Reid family for the past few days, Anne kept hugging on to me. Raising her head and gazing at me, she asked, "Mummy, are you going to abandon me? Why did you let me stay at Grandpa's house?"

I was dumbfounded for a while before I replied, "I had some errands to do and couldn't pick you up. That's why I arranged for you to stay at Grandpa's house. What's wrong?"

After pausing to collect her thoughts, she asked innocently, "But that Auntie who stays in Grandpa's house told me that you will desert me and that I'm not your biological child. She also told me that you'll send me off once I'm grown."

I frowned. "Auntie?" There were not many people staying at the Reid family's house. Her nanny was the only one most likely to talk to Anne.

She nodded. "It's the Auntie that cooks for us every day. Grandpa's very busy and works late every day. Uncle's very busy too. He only comes back to read stories to me at night. So, it's the Auntie who keeps me company most of the time."

I held Anne close to me and explained, "Anne, Mommy has no intention of leaving you nor abandoning you. You're my flesh and blood. Don't be bothered by what other people tell you from now on. Okay?"
