My Pretty Sweetheart (Arianna) novel Chapter 657

The message sounded like a ridiculous prank.

I frowned and turned off the phone, then continued studying.

Kelsey's call followed right after. Her voice was laced with guilt as she asked, "Was it Mr. Roberts?"

I frowned. What was she trying to ask?

"What happened?"

Realising that I was still clueless, she explained, "Sierra had been gang-r*ped in her own home. The police are still investigating. The scene was gruesome."

I was stunned. Subconsciously, I closed the book in my hand and turned on the television.

Indeed, all eyes were on Sierra's death.

"Aren't you with Mr. Roberts?" Kelsey asked from the other end of the call.

I frowned and thought back to what she said at the start of the call. I replied coldly, "Hendrix wouldn't do such a despicable thing."

As if noticing the anger in my words, she quickly apologized.

Humans change. She had been in business for years. Thanks to that, she was now as sly as a fox.

We were no longer the same people we were before. I hung up and looked at the text message I received.

I called the number but no one picked up. After some thought, I decided to call Hendrix.

The call went through, and voices sounded from the other end. It sounded like he was in a meeting, "Arianna, what's the matter?"

His voice wasn't loud, but as soon as he spoke, all other voices piped down.

"What happened to Sierra?" I asked. I wasn't trying to accuse him, but I realized how accusatory my tone sounded, so I continued, "I received a very suspicious text message earlier."

I raised my head to look at her. Suppressing my anger, I asked, "Madam Roberts, have you always been this preposterous? Hitting someone without reason?"

She sneered, full of disdain, "Reason? Sierra's death is the reason. Arianna, I thought after leaving for four years, you'd come back and mind your own business. But I've underestimated you. What good should I have expected from someone who would even destroy her own birth mother's reputation? All Sierra did was admire Hendrix. If you weren't happy about it, you could've scolded or even hit her. Why did you have to let her suffer such a miserable death?"

So, she thought I was the cause of Sierra's death?

I almost lost it. I looked at her, amused as I responded, "Madam Roberts, you think too highly of me. If I really were that vicious, you wouldn't even have the chance to slap me."

She said disdainfully, "Stop pretending. Sierra insulted and humiliated you before, so you felt vengeful. Killing her wasn't difficult, what with the Reid family or the Moore family's power at your disposal; it's practically a walk in the park for you, getting rid of an actor silently. Arianna, you're a vicious woman!"

There seemed to be no way to get through to her. Besides, her intention of coming here wasn't to question whether I was the one who killed Sierra.

To put it bluntly, she didn't care about who killed Sierra. She just firmly believed that I was the culprit. Nothing could change that.

There wasn't anyone else in the Roberts household. Refusing to speak to her any longer, I said, "You've slapped me and mocked me. You may leave now, Madam Roberts!"
