My Pretty Sweetheart (Arianna) novel Chapter 654

"Please help cut the steak, thank you."

The waiter was speechless.

I couldn't help but look at Chloe. Her face was pale, and she looked as if a great wrong had befallen her.

Since the customer had voiced his request, and there was no reason not to do so, the waiter smiled and did as he was asked to.

The atmosphere instantly turned tense and awkward.

As if oblivious to everyone else, Hendrix placed a piece of steak in front of me and gently said, "Eat. Don't zone out."

I nodded and came back to my senses.

Anne looked at me, then looked at Chloe. Who knew what was going on in her little mind?

Suddenly, she asked, "Mr. Saunders, don't you love this aunty?"

I almost spat my mouthful of water. Why was this child so direct?

Chloe's face was ashen. She lowered her gaze and bit her lips. She looked terribly embarrassed, but still mustered a smile on her face.

Josiah raised his eyebrows and asked, "Do you know what love is?"

Anne nodded and said, "Uncle Aaron told me that if a man loves a lady, he will attend to her needs personally, just like how Mr. Roberts loves Mommy. He always takes care of Mommy by cutting steak for her, cooking for her, and often calling Mommy out of concern for her."

I...

Aaron really taught her something

When Hendrix heard this, he smirked, "Your uncle is really observant."

Hah!

Surprised, I turned around to look at her. A frown began to etch on my face. "Ruining other people's lives?"

I was amused. "Let's not talk about the fact that I'm the last person who wants Anne to meet him. He was the one who insisted on eating with Anne, yet you're blaming me?"

She looked at me, and her breathing quickened as she said, "I hope we can have nothing to do with each other from now on. You stay in Jarold City and raise your child. You'd better not show up in my life anymore."

I felt a little sympathetic towards her as I looked at her. She got so riled up over a child. I couldn't help but sneer, "Blood ties are the most peculiar things on earth; none of us can guarantee what will happen in the future. I suggest that you focus on taking good care of your baby, go on with your own life and don't overthink things."

It was obvious Josiah didn't love her. There were no feelings involved between the two of them. All she could rely on to be around him was probably the child in her belly.

There was no point arguing over this. I didn't say anything else to her and went straight into the washroom.

Kelsey called. I didn't want to answer it at first, but after thinking about it, I decided to pick up the phone.

"Are you busy? Do you have time for a meal tomorrow?" I knew that she was working for the Roberts Group. Going back and forth between Jarold City and Ucrebury must be quite hectic.
