I let out a laugh and glanced at the monochrome picture on the tombstone. I couldn't even shed a tear, but my heart was aching. I knew that she was afraid that, in addition to recently losing my child, if I knew something had happened to her, I wouldn't be able to hold on much longer or to move forward.
"Did she say anything else?"
"She said that she entrusts her child to you. You can choose the name and the child will keep you company in the future. You don't have to worry about there being no relatives."
Ian answered calmly, as though he had practiced this a thousand times before.
I felt like I was being submerged in ice, but my forehead began to sweat up a puddle.
Enduring the pain in my heart, I smiled lightly and agreed, "Fine!"
As soon as I said this, I felt something surge up my throat, only for a moment.
With a puff, I spat out a mouthful of blood.
Then, I felt a sharp pain in my heart. The pain was so great that I felt my bones loosening up.
"Arianna!" "Miss Reid!"
Ian held me in his arms, and his eyes had a slight scarlet sheen. He looked at Kelsey and roared, "Don't you know she has depression? Did you bring her here to kill her?"
Kelsey was a little stunned. Panicking for a moment, she shook her head helplessly and cried out, "I didn't know. I just thought that you had other reasons to keep her away, so..."
"Send her to the hospital immediately!" Sawyer, who had been quiet this whole time yelled out, looking a little pale.
There was a buzzing sound in my head, and my chest hurt so much that each breath I took was like a stab in the heart. I couldn't breathe.
Ian pursed his lips, and his throat bobbed. He coaxed while sounding like he was in pain, "Arianna, let's not bring up the past, okay?"
I stared at the ceiling and felt every inch of my body burning in pain. I added calmly, "I know what you're worried about, but Ian, I don't even know how she died. Do you think I can live in peace like this?"
He lowered his head into his hands and stuck his slender fingers into his hair. His voice was hoarse and restrained. "That night, when that happened to you, she was tricked into unconsciousness at the gate of Sawyer's house. Later on, someone told her that you almost died because you left the Roberts Mansion to look for her. Plus, Valerie was searching for you with a bunch of men, which almost cost you your life. She knew that you were in danger because of her, so her emotions were a mess. She was in a hurry to see what happened to you when she started bleeding profusely. She knew that she couldn't live any longer, so she entrusted the child to me before she passed on and asked me to give the child to you!"
With a choked voice, he continued, "She was afraid that since you had just lost your baby, you wouldn't be able to take it if you heard what had happened to her, so she told me to wait until the baby was six months old before telling you."
In just a year, I had experienced separation in both life and death. I fixed my gaze at the ceiling. My vision was a little blurred, and it hurt to keep my eyes opened. I could not say a single word more.
After a long silence, I finally found my voice. "Who told her the news?"
