My Pretty Sweetheart (Arianna) novel Chapter 2084

All three children had always been obedient, and knew that they shouldn't provoke their father when he was being stern about something. They rarely acted this way. The air in the living room had turned stiff after Aurelia's rebellious act.

Actually, if Hendrix had reminded her once more, Aurelia would listen to him and head upstairs. However, he stared at her drooping little head in front of him, showing no signs of opening his mouth.

When someone's emotions simmered, they would easily do things that were inconsistent with his or her personality, especially children. If their parents gave in too easily, they would easily form the idea in their subconscious mind that they could get what they want by pretending to be pitiful. But this would only cause more conflict.

"Ahem..." I quickly pretended to clear my throat to remind Hendrix not to be so softhearted.

Hendrix turned his head away with his eyebrows knitted close together. He looked as though he couldn't bear to do it.

I was utterly confused.

Who was it that said that men had hearts of stone? It was clearly made of something much more fragile.

I had no choice but to be the bad guy here.

"Aurelia..."

"Aurelia."

As soon as I opened my mouth, a more delicate sounding voice called for her. I turned around and found that Anne was on her way downstairs to pick up her sister.

We locked eyes with each other and Anne nodded, indicating for me to stay calm. Then, she walked over and knelt down to talk with Aurelia.

"What's wrong with you today? I've been waiting for you upstairs for such a long time. Why aren't you coming upstairs?"

"Okay, okay, calm down. I know what you mean, and I don't blame you nor do I doubt you." Anne quickly patted the top of Aurelia's head, and her tone turned much softer. "I just want you to understand that the most important people for each of us are our mommy and daddy, and Neal is no exception. He has been so lonely for so many years. Do you think that he should stay and live with us or live happily with his own mommy and daddy?"

Aurelia opened her mouth sadly. "With his own mommy and daddy..."

After a brief pause, she said excitedly, "But Neal doesn't have a daddy or a mommy!"

Anne curled her lips into a smile and said patiently, "It's not that he doesn't have parents, it's that they have been separated for a very long time, like us. That uncle and auntie who took Neal away this morning are now his parents. You've seen them before. You can tell that they are very nice people and will take very good care of Neal, right?"

"Hmm..." Aurelia closed her lips tightly and was lost in her own thoughts.

For a child her age, the most difficult thing to understand wasn't knowledge found in textbooks, but of worldly wisdom. It would take some time to really understand what Anne was trying to tell her, but one thing she was sure about was that neither Anne or us would ever lie to her.
